Not to mention some of the slapstick like in “Feeling Pinkie Keen” seemed very Looney Tunes-ish. (Especially when that anvil landed on Twilight. A falling anvil is not something I’d expect from a MLP show.) And don’t forget firey Twilight Sparkle was a Poke’mon reference to. The Parasprites were also basically the MLP-equivilent to tribbles from Star Trek. The show’s always been full of subtle references.
Yeah, Ticket Master had a Benny Hill-style chase scene. And the beginning of Griffon the Brush Off was basically a Pepe Le Pew cartoon starring Pinkie and Dash.
I also find it ironic when fans complain about having subtle pop-culture references in the comic, or newer episodes, (claiming it’s “pandering”) when ironically, the show’s had them sense season 1, even before the “brony” thing took off.
