I think you might be conflating a few details. Hasbro only ordered 65 episodes initially (it’s a pretty common run for most animated shows). That doesn’t mean it was supposed to be over once they got through those, it just meant they’d renegotiate from there, which is likely how we ended up with that funny half season for Season 3.
Faust has gone on record many times that she never wanted there to be more than two alicorns in the show. There was something about her ideal ending involving Twilight assuming Celestia’s role at the end, but I don’t know that she’s ever gone into detail about how she intended that to happen.

From what I can remember, FIM was supposed to end at season 3. And Twilight becoming an alicorn would have concluded the series then. But because of the massive popularity, they decided to make more seasons, contradicting Faust’s original slate.

Wasn’t the original like og idea was to have twilight sparkle stay as a unicorn?, I just don’t remember what Lauren faust’s idea was to have her as a unicorn or become an Alicorn been so long ago
