Ooh I see..! Thanks for the info! Glad I could learn a thing or two from games, hahah~
Pistol Sword.. I guess this “gunblade” from Final Fantasy is more of a machete than a sword
Oh, there’s also this Guillotine Gun in AC Unity: Dead Kings, which “combined a mortar grenade launcher with an axehead on the end of the barrel”.. I don’t know if it actually ever existed but who knows~

Technically, yes. Pistol swords did exist as novelties, but never gained popularity because they were very compromised weapons - instead of a good pistol or a good sword, you got a heavy yet fragile pistol suitable only for close range mounted to an imbalanced sword.

The pistol sword was real, yeah. It was used in the century 17 and 18, and even in part of The Great War. Though they were not popular even then, because they were awfully deficient.
And if there’s still assault rifles with bayonets, it’s because they’re more an ancillary weapon, to controlling war prisioners, as a secondary tool or for ceremonies than anything.
The most interesting thing about the original FFVIII gunblade is that it wasn’t even a gun. It was closer to being a manual vibroblade, since all pulling the trigger did was make the blade vibrate with a bang.
I believe it’s even noted as incredibly impractical in-universe, when Laguna “used” one in a movie he was in (which just happens to be the movie that made Squall and Seifer want to use one for real).

There are historical examples of weapons that combine guns with blades, but not like that.
Depends on which version of the Gunblade you’re talking about.
The FFXIV versions work vastly different from the VIII ones.
