The Mane 6 forgiving a main villain instead of REVENGE 17 LIFE SENTENCE 5 LETHAL INJECTIONS 10 DECADES OF FAMILY SHAMING,Twilight being a princess that do things and shoot lasers to complete monsters (Tirek),conflict taking more than the old tricks in the books to be resolved (Hoofields and McColts)
The innovation/quality you seek is not exclusive to the Faust era like you seem to imply
Also
>Fluttershy still being a substandard flier after that training montage in “Hurricane Fluttershy”
Funny but that argument is also brought up to complain about the lack of character development of Fluttershy, you cant have your cake and ate it too

I think the other BP was talking about subverting clichés such as making Rarity into a real character with depth instead of a generic shallow fashonista; the mane 6 actually aggravating the tensions in Appleloosa instead of resolving them in “Over a Barrel”; “The Best Night Ever” being anything but, at least as far as the GGG was concerned; Fluttershy still being a substandard flier after that training montage in “Hurricane Fluttershy”; etc.

Wait a minute,i just realised, since when MLP was about subversion? If i remember correctly, what attracted people in the first place was the sincerity(an article even talked about “new sincerity),a far cry from the “lol we so innovative we parody tropes” overdose.Alas, sincerity cant survive in a fandom invaded by misanthropic contrarians (or the Internet in general)

Implying playing things straight is a bad thing.I for one is sick of all the “post-modern” irony and “lel we dont take ourselves seriously” attitude that have invaded pop culture.Give me escapism, subversion is the new cliché

Which is ironic, considering how many of their classic movies are based on properties with lapsed copyrights.

Though I’m sure many other companies wish for perpetual copyrights; Disney’s just the one with the most clout.

I am by no means defending Pretty Little Liars. That said, I think My Little Pony has been adopting more cliches these days instead of subverting them.
