The Derpy figure sitting in front of the pen among remaining pieces of filament is the first detailed figure I tried. I smoothened the surface a bit with the woodburning tool which I usually use for pyrographies.

No problem at all.
Indeed it works exactly like a glue gun only with plastic filament rather than glue. There are some helpful videos on youtube with some tips. One important thing is to keep the tip of the pen very close to what you want to make or else the filament will form rather random shapes rather than a straight line… which in certain cases might be what you want to have ;)

Thank you very much, ABronyAccount :)
This Derpy was my first attempt at a sculpture with the 3D pen (after a few flat doodles). She also “happened” kind of spontaneously and freehand (without a planning sketch) at a bronie meetup.
The next figure I made (I’m going to upload her soon) was a lot more planned. Since then I also experimented with putting a figure into the oven for a few minutes. This however would turn such figure almost too smooth with an extremely shiny surface, so I think I will do that in the future only in case “extremely smooth and shiny” is what I am acutally going for :D
