Well, yes, Opaline shows up and Sunny sees her in that episode IIRC, but I was saying those things were plot points in this fan-comic (made of single panels with a single inset in one case, again IIRC).
Does that cover it? I am a bit confused.

She can in general, but it is actually a plot point that it is physically intense enough that in her weakened condition doing so exhausts her. Thus she is leaving Ponykind vulnerable to the threat Twilight left a warning about* since Sunny couldn’t fight back if it shows itself.
*Which we as the audience know is the evil alicorn Opalescence and her minion Misty, but Sunny doesn’t know that.
