Or a very unholy attempt at a eggplant that can function as a kidney(a)! Remember, Applejack was an Earth Pony, but so was Pinkie Pie ((scare cord)). The confluence of the two could produce… many things and I do mean THINGS.

(a)Actually slightly more scientifically plausible than one might think… dialysis machines are basically very specifically shaped fiberglass and maybe a pump and I have heard kidneys described as “just a sponge… a sponge that shouldn’t work based on our current understanding of science, and yet does” or something like that.).

EDIT: Reminds me of a fanfic in which someone’s foal told them the equivalent of “Hey, I just not only invented brain surgery yesterday, but performed it successfully! Of course, in the middle of it I discovered they needed some extra cerebro-spinal fluid, so I just took some of mine as needed. But I think it worked and the patient is now out of the coma.”

The mother’s response was “You are an IDIOT for risking your life and the life of your patient that way, and the NEXT time you do this, you WILL have me right next to you watching for problems!”.

Please spoiler any guesses as to which fanfic I am referring too… I hope to remember to add a spoilered name or link at a later date, but I might not, and don’t want to tempt people too much in a way that would ruin an important plot arc if they stumbled across it randomly.

…I would totally read a fanfic about an Earth Pony’s quest to grow replacement organs near the surface of their own or an animal’s body. We are doing stuff that approaches that in real life (human shaped ear on a lab rodent), so that would add to the suspension of disbelief, and some good world-building about the details of Earth Pony magic and/or arguments from the character about the principles they are working from could cover the rest.

“I brought you a new kidney, Sunny! That’s why you were in the hospital for so long, right?”

I had a long day again, so I’m sorry if these aren’t too well phrased or thought out.

FWIW, I still have an instinctively negative reaction to merely real-world sized fruits and vegetables in this setting. I am aware this was rejected the last time I mentioned it, and maybe the Pony we are seeing here couldn’t grow anything at all before, or was trying for number of fruits/vegetables rather than size, or even explicitly learning fine control of size (both would make sense if the goal is “will fit in the blender at the smoothie stand”) or she could even be following in Sprout’s hoofsteps with a “I grew this specifically for you to eat it”… but on the visceral level it still seems off to me given the usual aesthetics of Earth Pony magic in the show.

Second edit: Also, this appears to be Seashell, who IIRC can DEFINITELY grow stuff bigger than this, and was doing so by accident with… problematic outcomes at one point. But I could be remembering wrong, or the tagger might have erred (for all I would know…).
