With the coments on “the Stare” It now makes me realize

In the context of this universe, it’s entirely possible that Fluttershy isn’t actually blind, but instead has to keep her eyes closed because she posses some great magical ability with her eyesight. Her “Stare” could be something she always has but doesn’t have any propper control of, and thus if she wants to live a normal life without affecting others she had to learn to keep her eyes closed, which in turn might have affected her levels of confidence and lead to her shy demeanor.

I don’t know what exactly it could be, but it would explain why she isn’t opening her eyes at all, since if she was just blind theoretically she could still keep them open.

Dash would have been putty in Twilight’s hooves if not for the fangs that scared the pegasus. Twilight did not try to persuade Rarity to “have fun”. When meeting Applejack, Twilight was not excited, but delighted with the splendor of Applejack’s flanks.
