Because there are more egregious issues with this explanation, errors that go FAR beyond what can be excused by in-universe ignorance and CANNOT be said to have been made to improve the work given how unlikable it turned out. (Or how could what actually happened be WORSE such this is an improvement?)
At best it’s a wasted opportunity to fix this by explaining just what caused this mess.
@TOMNICE
They did because it was never selling itself or setting itself up as an alternate continuity. It still had to operate within the confines of the show canon, the comic retconning its own continuity to fit the show’s when it contradicted.
Fan are complaining about the continuity because it wasn’t doing enough to establish itself as alternate.
Did they even need to make an “explanation” in the 1st place? I thought seeing the show and the comics as 2 different continuities (or AUs if you will) was perfectly acceptable.
@Daneasaur
G5 writers are different than the comics so let not give undo blame. Post ANG G5 is just forgettably mediocre, the comics are hit or miss with big misses, very different problems. If/how they overlap is another debate.
And the problem isn’t Spike lying, this comic makes clear at least some of it was at least part true. It’s that the bad stuff isn’t even plausible lies or failing to make the work better as it’s supposed to explain. HOW something like this mess-up happened might have been a fun story, but it’s just used as a blanked excuse that raises as much problems as it addresses.
@Mr.Myoozik
Honestly the ire is warranted. The S9 epilogue left a lot of questions and when the comic wrapped up and people wanted to know why the story was so weirdly different from the show, instead of anything sensible, they just say spike wrote the comics and lied about everything?
If this is accepted, is it any wonder that G5’s writing is so atrocious?
I’m not even sure the point being made here. It feels like it’s supposed to be a “gotcha” but OP got too excited and skipped straight to the punchline without the setup.
What is this, Spike Trump?
