Misty rescues Sparky from Opaline, defeating her and earning her cutiemark in the process.

It’s the epic conclusion of this little series I had going with Misty and Opaline. The original first post (And my 200th post at that.) was actually a commission from Javier4-8. I decided to expand on his idea with some of my own ideas of what Misty’s life was like when she was raised by the evil alicorn. As it goes I did one image with Misty as a baby when she is first kidnapped and orphaned, one with her as a filly being raised by Opaline, and finally this one with her as a full grown mare finally overcoming and freeing herself from Opaline’s clutches. I saw Misty’s new design and cutiemark in recent promotional work, and this is my take on how she earns those. As I said in the previous image, butterflies represent so many things from transformation, to comfort, to even freedom. I wanted to emphasize all three of these in this image. Misty does undergo a transformation of sorts not only on the outside, but also within as she finally finds independence from her former abuser. And by rescuing Sparky, it comes full circle as she prevents the abuse of another child as she once was.

Poetic justice is how I would describe it.

And that’s basically it. It was a lot of fun making this small series. I do like Misty as a character and I can’t wait to see what they do with her in the near future (Despite my boi Sprout getting sidelined.)

By the way you may notice the rainbows bursting out of Opaline. Those are actually based on a somewhat scrapped concept from the G5 movie. I liked the designs and kind of got inspired to do something like that here. I even used a similar gradient from the artwork.
