Description

With Vinyl and Octavia day coming up this weekend, I knew I had to make something for it, since a lot of my art is inspired by music.
As easy as it would be for me to go with the standard Vinyl rave scene, or Octavia doing her thing on the cello, I decided to try my hand at something a bit more elaborate and symbolic.
This was an idea that popped in my mind a while back. While the final project turned out way different than how I imagined it in my head, I’m still decently happy with how it happened, especially since it’s been a while since I worked on something this ambitious.
I’ve noticed in recent years that a lot of people tend to look at music is a calculated or apathetic perspective, even though I feel that it’s so much more than that. Music is revealing of our truest selves, the key to emotion when we’re otherwise numb, and allow us to feel those emotions at their strongest. Whether it’s a harmonic crescendo, a soft-spoken melody, or a upbeat and joyful beat, music holds the power to transcend us into a different state of mind, allowing us to connect with our true selves.
With this, I had the idea of Vynil and Octavia in a temple-like, where they’re able to show their true musical sides, letting the magic guide them. While I don’t think I fully delivered on that front, I still wanted to incorporate magic elements. So I decided I would take inspiration from Monstercat’s Lost Civilization things they did for a while (if you know, you know). The idea that the two are uncovering a lost treasure or long lost secret from an ancient society that valued music.
Maybe I can make a remastered version on this piece later on, something better resembling the symbolism that I had in mind. Until then, I think I did an okay job.
