More like Bridlewood. There are signs that the entire middle Equestria has been destroyed and abandoned as seen with Canterlot, as the G5 movie has shown the valley. Only meadows to see, scattered vegetation and bare with little settlement in the angles where the camera was aimed. Only the lower parts of the valley where Ponyville once lay are still not visible and thus not shown.
It was said that Discord got around as a storyteller from place to place as in his youth, when such storytellers were common as these spread knowledge, legends and stories from the old times to those interested. Then it would not be surprising if Discord were to come to the unicorns in Bridlewood as he seemed to want to remember the days from so long ago in his old age. Of course, the Mane 5 will hurry there to take the pegasi crystal from him.
But it seems that he had become too capricious and wants to “play a little” at the same time as he wants to push through his views on magic and the dangers of it. At the same time, it is possible that Sunny discovered her connection with the Unity crystals as seen on the first cover, and a fan has wondered if she can communicate with these. Especially since it is clear that the Mane 6 from G4 is involved in the mystery surrounding the Unity crystals. Maybe this is what Sunny needs to take the pegasi crystal.
Will it be in the issue - which will come out at the same time as the 3D series of G5 - we will find out what happened when Equestria collapsed? The damage in Canterlot indicates internal unrest at the same time as there was an attack from the outside, and it seems that the city was “saved” by whatever it was that made the valley uninhabitable. We do not know why the Unity Crystals were taken apart, was it because a much bigger threat had emerged, that even Discord and Twilight could not stop?
Discord refused - or can not - tell what happened, so the answer can be found in Sunny’s connection with the Unity Crystals …
