Description
Concept art for King Cosmos Sol and Queen Stella Starshine, the parents of Princess Celestia and Luna in my slow-release novel, The Tale of Two Sisters.
Some may remember the first version of King Sol, who was based on the Big Mac body-type. This time he has a unique design and new body-colour, though I’m still not 100% about him.
Queen Stella’s design was made up as I went along, given that she has yet to be described in the story (having died just before the narrative begins). I wanted her colour scheme to evoke the heavens, much like Sol’s, while trying to avoid typical “princess colours” and hopefully complimenting the King’s. Starting with pastel blue, she shifted to pastel yellow for a while after I had coloured her hair, before finally deciding on this royal purple, similar to Tempest Shadow, or a certain future student. This darker colour was chosen not only to contrast her hair (with yellow and purple being complimentary colours), but to also evoke a connection to Luna’s colour scheme.
As you can see on the image, the King’s concept art was drawn late last year, and I suppose I was expecting to finish and refine it before uploading, though this clearly never happened. It didn’t seem worth uploading on its own, so I decided to combine it with the Queen’s concept art drawn today. I will most likely continue to refine his design, though I am surprisingly happy with Stella’s, despite her big, dumb ball-tail.
