1 HUGE roadblock with that theory is that, the magic needed for that kind of stuff, hadn’t yet returned to the world. So, her memories had to be lost in another way.

I think Opaline wiped Misty’s memories of her life before they met to keep her loyal and obedient to her. If she couldn’t remember her dad, she wouldn’t try to go home. When Opaline is defeated, Misty will remember.
