Description

I actually made lore to this.
So basically, I drew Party of One sad pinkie, but in this alternate timeline, it was Rainbow’s party instead of Pinkie’s. Nopony showed up to the party so Pinkie turned into Pinkamena, but this time no one checked up on Pinkie, like Rainbow when she intervened in the original Party of One, so Pinkie hung herself in the middle of her room, thinking that all of her friends had abandoned her. The Cakes eventually find her body and she is buried underneath a statue of her.

You’re precisely in the category of persons expressed in my comment.
The goal of shock value, disgust, trigger, or rise as you say is in of itself sometimes the point of the experience, and that inherently in itself is substantiated, just like a rollercoaster ride to thrill, tragedy to cry, or horror to scare.
It’s like saying a Rated R action flick is bad because it’s violent and therefore isn’t real entertainment, then giving it a poor review.
It’s a niche that yes, not many people will find entertaining, perfectly acceptable, sane even… but Downvoting Grimdark images en mass because of the medium existing isn’t because it’s poor content, but because people who are prone to Downvoting it simply won’t Filter it.

Grimdark images in general seem to fill a specific niche that’s extremely difficult to attain good Upvotes/scores, even when the art is fantastic.
It’s a combination of:
  • Ewwwwwwwu, look at edgeboi lord over here, boo!
  • My favwit poni, waaaaaa! Dis is a nice poni, y u do this?
  • OMG, triggering dark stuff!
  • I came here to smile at cute and clop to sexy, wtf is this? There is totally no other reason to enjoy poni image site.
And sometimes:
  • That’s the WRONG way to portray Pinkie Pie!
  • Grrr, this isn’t quality grimdark, get out of my watched images!
^ All of which is solvable with filters and/or Hide function.
Semi-grimdark pics can suffer even more because it borders to generally acceptable/implied and outright, auto-filtered grimdark
I think foalcon-related pics don’t seem to have this issue nearly so much because it’s auto-filtered (and it’s way more popular it seems).

Don’t let the downvotes get to you too much, they’re just numbers and don’t really mean much. Besides, people really need to learn to filter out the tags they don’t like. It isn’t your fault if you tagged the image right. That’s on them if they don’t like seeing ponies dying.
Also, try not to lose your self-esteem or motivation, you’ll get better at art if you just keep practicing, I promise for sure.
