Remember to start from the bottom if you carve traditionally: I made the mistake a few times of doing the opposite. Carving the mouth felt like defusing a bomb.

That’s a sweet idea. I have to try out a couple of these patterns.
By the way, a tool I’ve found that makes pumpkin carving easier is the Warren Cutlery Pro Pumpkin Carving Set. It’s a saw with interchangeable blades that are more precise than a paring knife. Unlike those cheap little saws you see in stores, it’s built well.
