The point isn’t the number of votes, but the ratios. Twilight, who is the main character out of them, has more by a substantial margin. What does it say about Sunny?

That G5 has succeeded at doing what I felt FiM attempted to do, and become an ensemble show, with a group of main characters rather than just one?

The reasons she was the main character in A New Generation no longer apply as that conflict was wrapped up by MYM Chapter 2. If it was Sunny passing the reigns of leadership to someone more qualified for the current conflict, this would be a good call showing her selflessness. But the show doesn’t have that level of sophistication, and is just them not knowing what to do with her now.

I mean, it seems pretty clear that Sunny is learning what it means to be an Alicorn - I have a feeling that will become relevant in the conflict with Opaline going forward. At least, that’s what it seems to me.

I wonder if that was a big reason why the writers have been trying to make Opaline more intimidating, so that Sunny has a legitimate source of conflict again. Because, in a way, you’re right. With all of the ponies getting along with each other and the other species being nowhere to be found (outside of the dragons), Sunny’s original purpose of bringing the ponies together and teaching them compassion is suddenly no longer relevant.

Sunny needs to be given a new role now, one that she can build upon long term. I think her learning to be a legitimate leader, similar to what Twilight learned to do after she got her wings, could be a good way to make her interesting again. And she could even approach that challenge from a completely different perspective compared to Twilight.

If anything, Sunny was too good as a main character, solving the initial conflict so quickly they didn’t know what to do to keep her relevant.

I’m not saying that. I’m saying her unique traits (all the Mane characters are “very kind and compassionate”) that made her the main character/leader in ANG, her ability to inspire ponies to set aside their prejudice, haven’t been relevant to the conflicts G5 has had since thus other characters have taken over that spotlight.

If anything, Sunny was too good as a main character, solving the initial conflict so quickly they didn’t know what to do to keep her relevant.

So…what you’re saying is that Sunny is simply not qualified to be the main character, and that’s why she doesn’t have the same kind of post count percentage over the rest of the G5 Mane Six (her along with Izzy, Pipp, Zipp, Hitch, and Misty) that Twilight had over the G4 Mane Six, is that right?

Because, I would disagree. I think that Sunny is a very kind and compassionate pony, and I think she makes for a wonderful lead. But I do agree with your assertion that the writers seem to put her on the backburner for whatever reason, and she doesn’t get nearly as much attention as she arguably deserves (with Twilight having gotten more development back in the Friendship is Magic days).
