Sure.
MLP?
Not so much.
Plus, DBZ suffers from being know by everybody but often people has seen little. Much of the cliches within DBZ has a context most people ignore. And at first glance can be confused by “abuse pony” stuff.
Many reasons, not everybody shares all, but I think that could be my take.

I thought Dragon Ball’s “loose” relationship with death was well know enough…
(Not to mention Buu’s ability to have the people he turns into candy and eats not die if he so choose to keep them inside him…)
