I usually type up that stuff fully expecting people to not read it actually because of short attention span gremlins that are usually on this site. Agree or disagree… I say it as I see it from my perspective on stuff. At least some people read it though. :P

There’s memes that are funny to some while being distasteful to others. That is the nature of comedy and humor in general.

Then there’s memes that are only funny if the viewer imagines them to be funny. If anything that is Gen Z and their collective brain rot forcing everything to be funny because they can’t handle realistic stuff or ideas.

I like comedic stuff that is actually made to be as such. If the artist/creator is putting all of the planning up to the viewer then it’s just nothing in an of itself. It holds no comedic value on it’s own therefore I simply view it as being nothing of interest. If there was something going on that could lend to a comedic effect then that’s different…. but this whole meme format is simply entirely up to the viewer to give it any meaning or value.

If I’m browsing around and see something funny then I will react as such. If I’m browsing around and see this I will simply be confused for a moment and move on. I’m not gonna pause on it and try to think of some scenario that makes it funny to me because there’s no value to me in doing that. If I see something actually funny then there’s value in that to me so I could show a friend or coworker so I can see how they react to the given thing. If I show this meme to someone then, provided they know of the characters involved, would probably just be confused as well unless they also want to take the time to make it funny for themself. But that defeats the purpose of me showing it in the first place as that’s basically asking them “How do you imagine this to be funny?” and having them come up with something on the spot.

In the end there’s no real connection between people viewing the same thing in that case. Each person would have to come up with their own idea to make it funny. While some people might have the same idea, others wouldn’t. Meaning there isn’t that same excitement in seeing a reaction from someone when you show them something that is up to them to decide on the funny part. While an actually funny meme would be viewed as funny in the same way by everyone since it’s made to be that way. So showing that to others means you find out both if they find it funny as well, and how much they react to that thing.

For what it’s worth, I think everyone else is kinda overthinking this. Someone drew a goofy Steven Universe comic poking fun at its proclivity for redeeming monsters through heartfelt speeches, a specific panel struck a chord, and other artists transposed the exploitable concept to their own fandoms’ casts of characters. Funny or not, that’s all there is to it IMO.

So it’s a meme for specific people who think about things in a specific way to find a specific type of humor in?

A character acting out-of-character is simply just that. In the context of simply just the image presented, there’s no comedic value to it. There’s some confusion, lack of context, and maybe some bemusement about what is seen… but nothing more.

If a meme requires the viewer to come up with their own idea on how it’s funny then it’s not a meme….. it’s work. You are presented with something that makes no sense on purpose by the creator so that you can make up what is funny about it yourself to get them some fake internet points or something.

That is why Gen Z humor is lost on me as I’m not going to make myself laugh at something by imagining what could be happening in the content, but would rather have content that is made to be funny on it’s own.

It’s may come off as random, but the point of the meme is to take your comfort characters (characters who you relate to) and put them in that scenario.
That’s the reason why there’s a lot of crossover.

The humor comes from one character who is prone to violence telling the other who is idealistic/pacifistic they have to murk someone. You can also do a reversal or subvert the meme.

Well… to me Gen Z humor is not humor at all and is simply a matter of how random you can be while also making the least sense possible. Which is somehow funny to Gen Z I guess?

But anyway, this is yet another thing that is simply random for the sake of being random with no comedic or humorous value to it for me.

the humor is supposed to come from two very different characters of both morally and/or design or characters who you would never imagine a crossover with.

It originally started from someone making a meme to mock steven universe in trying to reform every villain

now in terms of how funny it is is completely up to how much your gen z humor is and honestly there hit or miss, depending on the combos
