Description

She was pointing to the very border of the desert, where sweltering sand and rocky batholiths that were too hot to even touch during the daytime collided with vast, cooler but still arid, grasslands and savannahs. It was still too hot for your own liking, but you knew that Sandy wouldn’t have even begun to sweat here, such was her resistance to hot and dry conditions.
Sandy stood near the grassy edge of a vast chasm, a massive reminder of the colossal tectonic forces that had once shaped this land in times long past. It almost seemed to delineate a border between the desert, and the scrubland beyond that seemed to stretch as far as the eye could see.
The telltale signs of past volcanism were clearly evident , despite the erosion. Long cooled dusty black basalt lava flows and extinct cinder and spatter cones littered the area where she was pointing, another reminder that Earth and Equis were not too dissimilar in their ancient history, the general geology seeming to align, almost frighteningly closely, as if the worlds were twins separated across dimensions at birth by some cosmic cataclysm.
In fact, some of the scientists from both Earth and Equis were apparently coming together in a great conclave to discuss that very possibility- as much of a stretch as it sounded to you, at any rate. Too many theories, and not enough facts for your liking- but such was the nature of science.
She wasn’t saying anything at present, just looking out wistfully towards the desert that had raised and shaped her, that had hurt her deeply, yet had kept her alive. You knew that Sandy wanted to get back there soon, for as much as she says that she wants to leave town and get away from the desert forever, it always drew her back into it’s scorching embrace.
In a way, you understood it well. Addiction had been your metaphorical desert. You had tried everything to get off the gear, only to fail and end up back on it. Only moving to Equestria had been effective, as the drugs simply did not exist here, and never made it across the portal due to some kind of magical screening. Truth be told, it was more magical bullshit that you didn’t understand, but in this case, were actually pleased about.
You stood next to Sandy, and laid your hand upon her withers- the scruffy mare looking up at you with undisguised adoration in her eyes. You had been together for a few months now, just taking things slowly and seeing where life took you both.
You knew damn well that you loved her, after all, you two spent all your spare time together, and though you knew she was pansexual and polyamorous, and had since your first night together, she had apparently sworn off all other flings, partners and liaisons, just to spend more time with you alone.
It wouldn’t have bothered you if she hadn’t done that- you understood how she was wired and didn’t consider it cheating, but you appreciated it deeply. You were frankly touched.
Without a word, Sandy stood on her hind legs, placing her forehooves on your shoulders before drawing you into a passionate kiss, your tongues wrestling for dominance.
Yeah, you thought.
You’d give up both worlds for her.
