Some western cartoon logics just love to use male image onto cows too much, while science says otherwise, cows are females, the bulls/oxen are the males.

I generally just avoid medias with “male” cows, just does not make sense, and Otis should’ve been a bull/ox in my eyes, maybe their writers wanted a cow character, but too shy with female characters…

But in Minecraft, people misgendering cows does not matter much there due to genderless nature of that game, few people really got it right like some naming the cow Betsy the Cow for example.

At least Fairy Tail manage to mix cow and ox into one male minotaur.

Well, since MLP and some other fandoms like Touhou revolves mostly female characters, this silly “male cow” is not welcoming and the cow jokes fits into the fandoms’ favorite females easily without being cursed, plus can be sexy, and I personally am good with that because I stand with facts. As you can see here, cow Rarity works because Rarity is a female character, while putting it onto Big Mac would be off, luckily he got ox/bull treatment in some fanarts.
