Hmm… I hadn’t considered that. If I were to give him black eyeliner AND smudge it, well, pardon my expression, but he might end up a tad too emo-ish. I wouldn’t want him to come off too edgy.
Oh, and that’s not Barb, still Spike. I gave him longer lashes because I found it cute.

Thanks for your critique. I’ll strive to make my character designs more original in the future. Perhaps it wasn’t the best idea to just take Spike and tweak a few things. That surely doesn’t help him stand out…

I know who it is in reference of, and the colors are not great on it regardless. Not a great “redesign” overall.
