hehe… when you spend 11 hours a night standing in the same spot, repeating the same action over and over, and singing is the best way to make the time go by faster… well, suddenly, it seems more reasonable. I will tell you this, though… I often lose my voice because of it, and if I push my vocal cords too hard in a night, I cause myself minor injuries that take days to heal D= This means I either have to sing less, or put less effort into it, and both options suck.
@Background Pony
Thanks for the replies. I can now see the possibility. And I have to pay my respects to Pony Paradox. I thought do a same thing for 3 hours in a row would be very tiring, not to mention the risk of occupational injuries, but 11 hours?! Oh, my!!!
I sing for nearly 11 hours every night (yes, that hurts about as much as it sounds by the end of it) because of my long-ass work shifts. So, it seems to me that octavia could very well practice a lot more then three hours a day, or that she might practice more then one instrument for three or more hours every day.
Furthermore, while a cello and fiddle are clearly very different instruments, they are also similar in a lot of ways. So, it could be that Octavia has mastered string-and-bow instruments in general.
Well, we don’t really know how old Octavia is. The only earth pony we know a vague age for is Granny Smith, who is somewhere comfortably over 100, yet acts like and somewhat resembles a spry 80-year-old human. Also, as this is her chosen profession, she could spend more than an average of 3 hours per day practicing.
Having said that, my headcanon is that she is an expert only at the cello, though she can play piano, violin, and double bass at a professional level, and that she is also interested in composing, having written a few etudes and concertos.
I once heard of a professional singer saying that to be a professional, one must at least practice their instrument for more than 10,000 hours(including singing which is practice of throat). If one practice their instrument 3Hrs per day. 10,000/3 = 3,333 which is about 9.1 years. If one instrument would take almost 10 years to master, is it possible that Octavia could master more than one considering how young she is?
What the…?
Ooooh Scott Pilgrim’s reference…
