The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@Beau Skunky
It was mostly near the end that she wasn’t involved– she was not around when they made Cadance into an Alicorn, and that’s why she was surprised by it.

I agree that Season 2 was the best, even though Lauren Faust was less invovled. I think that overall the show had just plain matured a lot from Season 1, and that is why Season 2 is my favorite. If I were a true Faust worshipper, I would only drink from the grail of Season 1, because actual faust worshippers love to whine and complain about how the show was so much better before they knew about Bronies (in other words, a case of “it was only cool before everyone knew about it”).

Actually, part of season 2 wasn’t made with her involvement either I heard. Also, not everyone hates Season 3. I wasn’t bothered by it, though I admit S2 was better, and I kinda hoped they had more build-up to the finale. Still, I enjoyed it personally.

@Beau Skunky
The other driving force behind MLP that we lost for season 3 was Rob Renzetti, and no, he does not get enough credit. He was a very big part of the winning formula of seasons 1 and 2, and I think that Season 3’s problems are largely a result of losing both of them.

Faust did not have writer credit on many episodes, but she still oversaw the creation of the stories. If it seems like I am a “fowst wurshipper,” it’s largely because I am tired of the backlash she’s gotten, with people constantly trying to say that MLP was not actually her show, and that the current showrunners are the ones who we really owe credit to. I don’t think that’s right, especially since me and many other Bronies consider Season 3 to be the weakest, and it was the first season made with no involvement from Lauren Faust or Rob Renzetti at all.

Dude, I can agree with the whole bboifatz thing, but the rest is just wrong.

The only good thing that came from there is Peachbottom, and she wasn’t from there…

Never said you did, I’m just making an observation about why hostilities got to where they are.

You’re aware Lauren only wrote the first 2 episodes, right? It was more-so the other writers who did most of the “world-building” (including Meghan) with only a li’l bit of input from Lauren.

Besides, it’s not like Faust is “perfect,” or all her ideas are “gold.” If it were up to her, Applejack would be headbutting trees, and that would’ve looked silly.

No offense, bboifatz, but the reason people are sometimes on your case about the series is because your biggest crticisms sometimes come off as, “Faust didn’t do it, so it sux.” Some of just get sick of the Faust-worship. Sure she developed the characters, made the show what it is, and helped modernize MLP, but she’s not the only one who made the show great. The others who work on it deserve kudos to.

@Rjhoney
One thing I am almost certain of is that there would be better world building. Meghan McCarthy just plain isn’t good at it, but Lauren Faust took it very seriously. Notice how we had a brand new location brought in during Season 3 (The Crystal Empire), and it ended up just being a re-skin of Ponyville except with less definition and characters. It got introduced, and now it’s just kind of there as a backdrop for some episodes, with nothing unique that defines it after its introduction. It doesn’t even have any unique characters.

I think the show is fine the way it is. I even enjoyed the season 3 finale. But sometimes I wonder what it would be like if faust was still on the team, or if she had full creative control.

Eh, they have good reason to do it, and the whole situation only escalates if one side tells the other they are being stupid or whiny for having said believes. Or getting mocked for it (by the people making the show, no less).

As in, what happened in Ponychan and everywhere else.

Want to know what would’ve happened if Lauren had stayed on the show?

There would have been the same requests by Hasbro, and she would have had to find ways to work those in, the same as the current staff do. There would have been discussions between Lauren and the other creative talents about details of various episodes not yet scripted at the time she left. Those discussions would have resulted in Lauren adopting some of their ideas in place of her own, when she was convinced that their ideas were even better than her original concepts. And like the rest of the staff, she herself would’ve seen certain ideas wind up less than stellar once they actually were scripted out and storyboarded in detail. And those things she would’ve changed as well. Overall, her “vision” for the show in 2013/14 would be different from her “vision” as it was in 2011. Just like the current staff’s “vision” in 2013/14 is different from Lauren’s “vision” from 2011. But now that she has no say in what it is, all she can compare “now” to is where she thought it would go two years ago.

If Lauren was still running it, it would not be the same exact show as it is now. But it definitely would not be the same show Lauren thought it would be in 2011 either.

Well, of course that doesn’t automatically make it worse (except if it involves high school); it only becomes worse when they make it that way. In some ways, it probably is worse than what Lauren would have given us, and in some ways it’s probably better. At this point, it’s like the Tootsie Pop question: irrelevant.

“Despite that, I’m sure they’re very much excited for the opportunity to take the series in a direction that makes sense to them. The writers are very talented people, and a lot of what they have in the works is already looking very promising”.
It very sad that lauren will not see the show taking the course that she wanted it to take, but it’s important to remember that this donsn’t automaticly make the show worse!
Meghan and the rest are still inputing their own creative vision and are doing their most to turn the show as best as pisoble, the way they understand.

Lauran left the show because of a lot of reasons but mainly because of overwork and physical conditions turning impossible. When this happend Her vision of the future of the show left with her. This is how things happen.

It might be for the best we don’t know, ‘cause either way some will be upset, or use it as part of their “Lauren wanted it this way!” arguments. (And she knows it, and doesn’t want to stir up drama, or undermine the current developers for the show.)

It’s bad enough fans are starting to freak out at every little change in the series, and such as it is…
…No offense to you, of course. :P Teehee!

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@Beau Skunky
We don’t know. All that she said was that Twilight was being trained as Celestia’s “successor.” That might have meant princesshood, but in the context Lauren said it, it could have just as easily meant she would take over the magical academy. She will not actually say directly whether her original plan for Twilight was princesshood or alicornification.

Her words were “my original plans are irrelevant, it’s out of my hands.” You’d think if she knew it would calm fans down, she would be willing to say “yes, I was going to make her into a princess all along,” but she wouldn’t– even though she has been perfectly forthcoming about other facts recently, like Celestia and Luna having had parents.

Holy shit. If you all haven’t read the thread (source link), do it now. O.O

It’s a shame how the combination of things turned out like they did. It sounded like Lauren was planning something absolutely amazing. I’m still happy we’re getting more ponies in Season 4, mind you, but I’ll always wonder what Lauren was originally planning.

That’s the thing, too. I think that’s why Lauren isn’t saying anything about it. I have a feeling that Lauren saw things differently in her head, but no one else was necessarily privy to this knowledge. I don’t think she could blame anyone for taking a best guess and going with that.

Lauren also had left because she had lost creative control. To me, it seems like the show would have probably gone in a different direction than she wanted, anyway.

No offense, but I’m gettin’ a li’l tired of all the Faust-worship. Honestly, I’ve been enjoying the show even without her, and honestly some of her original ideas weren’t “perfect” either.
Such as Applejack “apple-bonking” trees with her head, (which would’ve looked silly) I’m glad they changed that to “apple-bucking” with her feet. Also, I think the current colors for the “mane 6” look better, and more varried then the original colors Faust wanted. (They didn’t seem as colorful to me, in fact both Twilight & Dash were both going to the same color.)

So wait, de-canonizing season 3 would automatically make everything “better?”
What are they going to do? Say everything after the “Canterlot Wedding” was a “dream?” That’d be stupid! Besides, S3 gave us some good things. like Babs, Trixie & Discord’s return. Aside from Twilight getting wings, and Discord turning (somewhat) good, Not to much has happened in S3 to effect the continuity so far.
I also still don’t understand how Twilight getting wings “ruined” the whole show. That’s like saying Sonic game’s “suck,” just because he has green eyes now. (Yes, I’ve actually seen Sonic fans say that)…
I really don’t understand this mentality that “only old stuff is good, new stuff is bad.”
