I dismiss this fashion claim at least partially, I’m sure twilight in her way to be prom queen will go through it. Yes they dress in way that tend to express teen’s fashion to the max, but as long as they doesn’t start to have endless conversations about it, it shouldn’t be a problem.

I think Equestria Girls is a really stupid idea, but if they really tried they could possibly pull it off.  
I mean, a version of My Little Pony that has the ability to appeal to adults is a really stupid idea, and look how that turned out.  
The problem is, look at season three. Some of the episodes were, in my opinion, the worst thing to ever be shown on a screen, and I’ve seen some pretty stupid/terrible stuff before.  
Nonetheless, I’m keeping an open mind. I’m not going to just bash it before I’ve even seen it, but I’m also not going to expect it to be good. I’m in the neutral zone on this one.

What I meant really was what @Background Pony said. The marketing for the toys doesn’t usually have much sway on a show. The little blurbs in catalogues or on the back of the box is usually written in the most non-offensive, mass appealing way possible that it usually barely resembles the product at all.

Fluttershy ends up being the real villain of Equestria Girls.
 
Hates her inability to grasp fun or fashion.
 
Hates being typecast as loving fruit salad (even though she really loves fruit salad).
 
Too much of a wimp to do anything about it so just writes angry blog posts.
