The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Trixie ran rings around everyone even without the amulet.

Trixie used a bit of levitation, some transmutation that wasn’t any more impressive than what Rarity did, and a lightning bolt that didn’t do more than singe Rainbow’s hair. I’m not seeing anything that makes Trixie look tough. She uses what she has well, but she’s still not packing a lot of heat.

She also never got into an actual fight with any of them, simple throwing out a trick to shut them up.

Rarity is only competent in fights or magic via protagonist power. Realistically speaking, she spends all her time inside, does little manual labor and is essentially a high society lady.

She’s charged headlong into a fight against a manticore and the changeling horde, does her own mining most of the time, and nearly won the Sisterhooves Social competition. She acts like a high society lady, but that’s just an act.

Hate it as much as you want, but the show has been consistent about giving Rarity a high level of physical ability, as well as skill in a fight.

Trixie ran rings around everyone even without the amulet. Her motif seems to be using her damn magic as a cudgel when people piss her off, so shes probably gotten into plenty of fights before. Hell, shes a literal megalomaniac - her magic is all about making her feel powerful. The royal guard are questionable ( we dont know much about them ), but i certainly dont think the dressmaker counts as a bigger asskickerthan the known sadist and her lightning bolts.

Meanwhile if it came down to a fight between the mage-gypsy and things which arent gigantic space bears, shed probably just tie them up and either set them on fire or electrocute them to death. Be interesting to see how shed do in a physical fight though. Shes gotta be fairly fit to pull her wagon around, but she seems like the type to do everything else with her magic a la Gaara of the desert.

The cutie pox cutie marks were fakes. The instant knowledge was unique to them, and the compulsion to perform the marks was also unnatural. Natural cutie marks come from interests and talents that the pony already has, and don’t make the pony want to do those things more than they already do. They’ve made it pretty clear in several episodes.

One gets their cutie mark when they realize that they really like doing something. Heck, it’s debatable whether it is even something that they have to be talented at, although constant practice will eventually grant them skill at it.

Since ponies like doing what ever it is that they got their cutie mark for, they’ll try to get a job connected to it, although not every cutie mark is related to something that pays well. Trixie has a job as a performer, so that seems the most likely, but is far from a given.

That said, ponies can and do have multiple talents, and cutie marks are abstract, making guessing what a cutie mark is supposed to mean quite difficult. It’s possible that she’s talented at magic and performance, but didn’t get her mark for either of those things, or that she’s not talented at either but got her cutie mark in one because she likes magic and performing.

My point is, we don’t know what she got it for, and anything we say is just a guess.

And while Trixie has more magic than the average unicorn, that doesn’t mean she’s going to go around kicking the crap out of people. Heck, she doesn’t seem to have any combat experience, so I’d place her below Rarity or the Royal Guards in a fight.

shrugs Its never stated what her mark is in, so til she states otherwise its in magic (occams razor, etc). But the cutie pox episode implies at least that merely having a mark gives you basic competence at it (though you could argue youd need to have basic competence to get it in the first place, so a catch 22 unless you have the cutie pox).

i personally think of her as about as powerful as any mage would ‘usually’ be at that age, without being chosen one/element of magic/ a protagonist etc. Shes still easily the most powerful magic caster weve seen who isnt royalty, and is fully capable of wiping the floor with anyone who isnt one of those.

Though honestly sometimes i think she should just pick up the Alicorn Amulet again and roll with it. Her life is pretty shit one way or the other, so she might as well be powerful if insane. It worked for Luna. Give her a couple of years of people calling her disappointing or inferior to Twilight or claiming her cutie mark is in simple tricks, yknow, let the depression really stew like lunas did, and then shell probably care a lot less about being good.

Dozens? Only with the Amulet. I’m not sure that I’d put her much above average, either. We only saw her do about five or six spells without enhancement, and even Rarity was capable of improvising basic weather manipulation.

@Background Pony
My point was that Trixie, without the Amulet, isn’t all that powerful in absolute terms. She’s not helpless, but she’s incredible either.

Is her cutie mark in magic? I was under the impression that it had to do with stage presence or performing. Getting a cutie mark for something that you like doesn’t make you infallible at it, either, or even capable at all aspects of it.

As was pointed out in these comments, ability like Twilight’s is rare. Assuming that Trixie has power or versatility the way that Twilight does is unreasonable.

I didnt argue anything, and neither did the guy you told to leave the fandom. he just said that given the choice between taking the shows canon and what Faust said as canon hed take Faust anyday. He also said the show is sellout - which is true enough since it still has its filthy toy selling roots.

Both are reasonable positions in my books, neither should require him to leave the fandom.

The operative word here is ‘started’. Faust turned the show completely around with excellent character designs, charming animation, involving conflicts etc. Yknow, all the reasons we are fucking here. Without wishing to sound like some sort of creepy worshipper, without Faust none of this shit would have gone on. Shes the one who thought of the designs, shes the one who insisted they stick to awesome little touches like glowfly filled lamps, shes the one who designed the show you like.

You cant just tell people to leave the fandom every time they pull criticism at a show which for all its upsides sorely needs it. Especially in a show where Hasbro has demonstrated they are quite happy custom ordering things to fit their toys, like entire characters, plots, or family members.

So basically, unless you watch and love all the old My Little Pony cartoons, kindly decide to fuck off before telling someone to leave the fandom over trivial matters.

Meh - she showed off more magic on screen than any other pony until Luna, and for all the ‘its just tricks’ most of them were pretty powerful. Shes not Twilight, but then Twilight is pretty much the chosen one. Trixie is a gypsy. Comparing them in that way seems like comparing batman to superman, or Usain Bolt to the Flash.

Shes still got a cutie mark in magic, its not possible for her to be a bad mage any more than it is possible for Rarity to be bad at being fabulous.

You forget that out of all the “normal” mages we’ve seen on the show, Trixie is second only to Twilight. Most ponies are seen only using one or two spells, basic levitation and something related to their special talent. Trixie is seen using dozens of spells proficiently, putting her far above any other character that isn’t a villain or a princess.

Word of Faust says that Trixie attended Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns, which means she has more magic that we realize.
