Oh i wouldnt say i take them seriously, but theres what ‘works’ in your eyes and what doesnt. Like Luna for me works either as super pale goth girl, or super dark skinned but i think she looks sorta silly at anything in between. I quite like dark skinned Celestia. But i find Rarity in any colour other than porcelain white just weird.

I could never take humanizations seriously anyway, so I like all sorts of variety and unusual choices. Bring on the Native American Rarity, or the Arabic Pinkie Pie!

I actually never minded Twilight drawn in different skin colours. I do sometimes mind it, like when Rarity or Applejack (but not Rainbow, Twilight, Luna etc) are drawn as other races than white it looks weird for me. But for whatever reason i never found Twilight odd looking no matter what race she was drawn as.
 
(Even though the little part of my brain that demands the show make total sense is pointing out that Ponies are medieval based i.e. Europe and Zecora is a freaking Zebra and therefore theyve sort of already told us what races they would translated to but nevermind him).
 
But anyway, this sort of pours water on that, because her brother IS a pony that looks weird as any other colour but white to me. Maybe its because of his coat colours? Would explain Rarity at least.
 
Or maybe im just a big horrible racist who everyone should shun.
