This is an, from the Story and World Build, already outdated Picture.
In the Begin, as I was creating the World of Friendship is Kindness, I was looking for a Place my Friend Steelo could be.
So first I had add him as some Kind of Royal Guard or Bodybuard, but never realy was happy with it.
Today Steelo is not longer a Guard, but instead is running his own Blacksmith Workshop in Canterlot.

This is the BG Story of Steelo in MLP: FiK:

In the Time Steelo was young, PF was living already in her Home similar to Fluttershy in the Show.
Similar to Twilight she has no Guards, Guards are usual just with the ruling Princess or Queen, who are Princess Cadance of the Crystal Empire and the Rulers of Equestria Queen Celestia and Nightqueen Luna.
The Apple Parents was still alive, Flurry Heart not born and Cadance still Single, the Harmony 7 was not founded so far.
The later Members of the Harmony 7 was still in School Age like in the Episode where Rainbow gave the other Mane 6 their Cutiemarks.
Nightqueen Luna had teach the Earth Pony Twilight to watch the Stars, what has lead to her later Job as Scientist and Astronomer, AJ was still the little Filly without the Hat (still worn by their Dad Bright Mac), Pinkie was still on the Pie Farm, Rainbow was in Cloudsdale and Rarity somewhere in Ponyville, searching Gems with her Dad.
I not think PF had much interest in Steelo as they have meet the first Time, after all he was much to young.
I think it could be similar as Luna & Pipsqueak, where Pipsqueak has meet Luna in Season 2 at Nightmare Night and growing up in the Shipping we now know.
Later Steelo has enter the Royal Guard as he grow older and because of his Affection fo PF he was sometimes ordered by Captain Shining Armor (PF’s Half-Brother) to act as PF’s Bodyguard on some Events, like the Equestria Games.
Later he has end or quit his Duty as Soldier of the Crown and started the Apprenticeship at the traditional Canterlot Blacksmith “Hammer & Iron” (still a working Title, other Options are “Rusty Cettle” or “The old Forge”), who was creating Weapons and Armors for the Crown for Generations (around the 500 Years).
After he has master his Skills in Forging, the old Master Smith retired and sold the Workshop to Steelo, who has continue the History of the Shop since then.
He is sililar to the FiM Rarity known for his Skills in the Art and his Workd was well demanded, even the forge not longer need to create Arms of War.
Instead of Swords, he made Plows or Knifes for the Kitchen, Fences, horse Shoes and decorative Elements.
Often also get Comissions from the Royality to prepare ceremonial Armor for the Queens and the Princesses, who then was finished by the very talented young Goldsmith Rarity, who added Gold and Gems in the Armor.
