Yeah, I’m sorry, I actually got your sea pony lore mixed up with your siren lore, but in my defense, you’ve done so much more siren art, and it’s been so long since you’ve done anything with a male sea pony. I do still think it’d be funny if male sea ponies could impregnate their land pony stallion lovers as well, though, because it makes a nice parallel to the magically aided reproduction of their female counterparts and reinforces the theme of “don’t have sex with sea ponies unless you’re into that”.

They basically follow seahorse rules. Females have an ovipositor, males have a brood pouch and get pregnant, and they’re about 50 years behind the rest of the world in terms of gender roles. The eggs absorb dna from their parent while being carried, and while they still will be pure-blooded seaponies they’ll adopt traits even from a non-seapony parent like mane and skin color. If you’re in to RGRE and mpreg, they’ve got you covered :D

In my continuity, it’s sirens where both males and females have phallic organs, because they use other creatures entirely for carrying their eggs. It used to be they needed both a female and male siren or else the eggs simply wouldn’t hatch, but they’ve much more recently evolved the ability to absorb dna from being carried as well: it’s a trait they acquired from impregnating seaponies, since sirens, and actually a number of other egg-layers, all target male seaponies since they’re so ideal for carrying eggs :P

My logic is, is as long as I manage to make, at the absolute bare minimum, more sense than “portal + dragon makes dog, but portal plus sea dragon and even portal + dog both make human”, I’m good to go XD

Though I’ll chime in the obligatory support for a follow-up depicting at least Star Tracker nice and hugely gravid, I must confess that I find the “lore” behind Badumsquish’s seaponies kind of confusing. It’d be one thing if the females and males of the sea ponies basically mirrored the anatomy of the seahorses that inspired them; mares have a phallic ovipositor for depositing eggs, and stallions having a pseudo-uterus and mock-vagina to receive said eggs, where they are simultaneously inseminated and incubated - that would make sense. But Badum’s version has a) seaponiy stallions who also have a phallic organ of some description, and b) seapony mares who can impregnate stallions of other races, who by definition don’t have the sperm-releasing pseudo-uterus. Point B also can make sense with Equestrian magic; it’s point A that just throws a logical monkey-wrench into the whole race. Why do male seaponies even exist? Wouldn’t making seaponies an entire species of ovipositor-wielding feminine-appearing hermaphrodites whose reproduction outside of seducing land pony stallions consists of penis fencing over who is made to be the one to get pregnant, like sea slugs, be more sensible?
