I am late to this part, but Daybreaker was Glimmer’s nightmare of Celestia. An imaginary manifestation of Starlight’s fear of conflict between the sisters.
The dream Daybreaker was supposedly a manifestation of Celestia’s selfishness and pride. Intoxication of her power, which would have to be something Glimmer viewed of her subconsciously. Power incarnate.
That said a nice nod and naming of Celestia’s alter ego Daybreaker would make her amanifestation her Pride. So, Nightmare Moon would be Envy.
Its a fun name to give such an imaginary character, Daybreaker just being an imaginary creature in MLP canon.
@moonlightaveger
The fandom has long held the idea of celestia having a similar “inner demon” to Luna. She was usually called something dumb like daymare sun, or more creatively, solar flare. If anything, daybreaker is a nod to that.
Or to distinguish between A Canon and B Canon? The Comics have Always just been additional stories that the Show never had to care About.
And on the Topic of Daybreaker, what implications should Starlight´s Nightmare have?
Me having fun combining 2 Elements from the Franchise that don´t exist in the Consistency of the Show Canon and be “What if we Combine These ideas” does not make any of them more “existent”.
Here is the thing about fandoms: people grow attached to their favorite characters, moments and all that. And the people that make these stories have this responsibility to not fuck them up. Because some people do care about quality. And I really don’t give a damn if you do, or you don’t. But I do, and some of the things people did with this franchise are objectively bad. Bad writing. Bad world building. Not really caring about consistency with the lore, with internal consistency. And we’re talking about a cartoon people went out of their way to praise for ‘deep characters’, and still come up with praises for the shallowest of things.
Daybreaker, for example: it is literally turning Celestia into another Luna, but without any of the dramatic weight that Luna’s transformation implied. It was literally, not caring. This sort of thing is disrespectful to people that invested time and emotions. Mostly because it could be easily solved IF the people that made it cared just a little. Another good example is Chrysalis’ holes. It lacks consistency with anything Celestia has done in the cartoon. These are the sort of things that make people say that child entertainment is stupid.
And when fans call out other fans for pointing those out, for asking for quality, as if it was wrong. Well, that is the reason we have this sort of things. Sorry, but I like quality and I expected more.
So, you are forcing me to participate. Because you think that I’m wrong in complaining of something the official material could’ve done better, but nobody felt that was necessary to be better.
Heck… Some minutes ago I saw someone on reddit claiming that the MLP x Transformers crossover was the biggest crossover of the decade. I just can’t parse this level of not caring.
I don’t know what is worse. That Daybreaker is literally the cartoon turning Celestia into another Luna, but without any rhyme or reason, people wanting Daybreaker to be a thing, or this whole idea of Chrysalis holes.
Why did I like this cartoon so much? The lore is a patchwork mess of plot serving bullshit.
But it was not Daybreaker, it was Celestia with fiery mane. At the time when the comic about Chrysalis’ origin was done, no one ever thought about Daybreaker.

Have you considered trying harder not to care?
