After losing her gold, ship, and crew to Tempest Shadow, a devastated Captain Celaeno finds an egg washed up on the beach.

You know something I realized recently? The 2017 MLP movie is a story that you could technically tell without the mane 6. It’s crazy to think about, but there are enough new characters in the film to formulate an original story. Which would take place in the same universe mind you. Hence why this idea is no longer apart of my rewritten plot (I came up with a completely new idea which I’m saving for later), but I still find the idea of a story centered around Celaeno, Skystar, Tempest Shadow, and the pirates to be a compelling one, even if the Mane 6 aren’t here.

This story would center around Skystar, a young, but spunky hippogriff who is the adopted daughter of former famed sky pirate Captain Celaeno. Having heard many stories about her mother’s adventures, Skystar dreams of being a pirate herself, but is confined to her home on Rogue’s Roost, a haven built by Celaeno for retired pirates and lost souls. When ruthless pirate and Celaeno’s archnemesis Tempest Shadow invades the town and kidnaps her, Skystar must embark on a quest to save her mom and prove just how capable of a skyfarer she can be.

That’s a rough synopsis of the plot. Again, I feel you could easily tell a separate story with these characters easily with a little imagination. I imagine a scene where Celaeno recounts the time she adopted Skystar after finding her egg.
