I would like to see G5 and G4 together but I don’t know how I will feel if they only kept one of each of the characters.
Like if they got rid of Fluttershy for Misty or got rid of Hitch for AppleJack.

G2 never had an animated series, only toys and a single CD-ROM game.

As long as they connect G4 with G5 as Hasbro owes us, I’ll be happy.

The writers did what they could, and did a pretty good job. It was Hasbro who wanted it connected to G4. They wanted all generations somehow connected. This is why G5 has a lot more connections to G1 than G4 did.
It’s very likely that this mindset is going to continue for whatever future pony content we get.

I have many problems with Generation 5, but my main issue was the fact that the writers felt obligated to place it in the same universe as Generation 4. There was no reason to do that, in fact its connection to generation 4 wasnt only a hinderance to the progression of generation 5 but it also brought generation 4 down with it by screwing up the future the main six worked so hard to achieve. That said G5 didn’t need that connection in the first place, it merely needed a solid foundation, this is merely the result of playing it safe, generation 4 didnt become a success because it followed the universe and storyline of generation 1, it created its own unique world, and as a result there was more room to work out a story.

That said its the fault of the writers, and the bad decision making at hasbro that caused this, I understand the logic behind the decision to cash in on generation 4 but if you cant even secure the rights to every aspect of generation 4 then what makes you think you can successfully put generation 5 in the same universe and make it make sense? Because you cant. That said I tried to like it despite what it did to G4, I just couldn’t, no matter how hard I tried. and newsflash to the G5 fans who are calling us G4 fans purists, no brony wanted to hate generation 5, what brony wants the successor to the show they love so much to fail? Where is the logic in that?

She didn’t need to fight world ending villains, because in some ways it was like the world had already ended. But she fixed it.

Sunny was an amazing pony and worthy of her alicorn powers. She maybe had no world ending villians to fight but she brought be nothing but joy and light into my life
I will greatly miss her and sad to see g5 end

Well, that’s fair. Also, I’m guessing you mean the art style of TYT (the bean mouth), since MYM/ANG is definitely not that.

I figured you were also talking about TYT with the “simplified storylines” comment as well, since I suppose it comes with the territory of doing 5-minute shorts as opposed to 22-minute standard length episodes. FWIW, I don’t think they’re oversimplified. Also, MYM is definitely on par with FiM as far as that goes (which makes sense since that one was helmed by someone who wrote for FiM back in the day, that being Gillian Berrow). Heck, I would personally say it’s better since it had a continual storyline happening as the episodes progressed.

YMMV, but I think it didn’t overdo it with the G4 references - if anything, it was closer to underdoing it, IMO.

And I don’t mind the phones and technology, but then, I prefer more modern settings and tech to pure fantasy, FWIW.

It’s fine if it wasn’t to your taste, I just got the impression from your comment you were more talking about TYT rather than ANG/MYM.

I have chronic depression. The kind that of depression that’s always there no matter what you do. SU seemed to cycle back to that topic quite a bit. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing overall, just not a good thing for me.

Purist? No. G4 had it’s flaws. Many of them. But I can’t stop seeing Steven universe when I think of this generation, a show that just kept reminding me of what I have. That plus the phones everywhere in every pone’s face, the simplistic storylines and the attempts to keep pulling on G4 for a story kind of just killed the whole thing at the start for me. I can’t get through a season without hundreds of questions and criticisms. And I didn’t want to go in depth about why I didn’t like G5 but I can see how my statement could be seen as a G4 puririst line of thought. I apologize, I did give this generation my best try. All I can say is I’ll be waiting to see what comes next.

TYT actually did a lot with its 5 minute runtime. Sunny just wasn’t the beneficiary of much of it. It was really the Pipp and Zipp show sometimes.

But that was something I appreciated about G5. It never became the Sunny show the way G4 became the Twilight show during all the big stories. Sunny and Izzy dominated the movie. Zipp took the lead for the first MYM special. Misty dominated MYM proper. Hitch kinda stole the show for the MYM winter special. Pipp and Zipp owned TYT season 1. Everypony got a turn.
