I like to think Fluttershy was the kid that was constantly being hit in the face with balls. No matter what sport she played, no matter how out of the way she tried to be, someone would always end up throwing or kicking a ball right into her face.

To this day, she still has nightmares about the one game of dodgeball where she ended up alone against ten other classmates.
