I just hope that you enjoy some of those songs, that’s all =) . For me, the coolest thing in music is being able to share it and enjoy it with others. That’s an awesome thing.

And, yeah, Miley really screwed up. While I’ve always hated “Hannah Montana”, I have still begrudgingly admitted that her singing voice is quite nice. I just wish she would evolve into a more intelligent musician, you know? I used to babysit for my younger cousins and they loved that show. So, episode through episode, I had to sit through awful crap, but again, even then I admitted that she could still sing. The girl just really needs to learn how to write her own songs and, from there, learn how to write better songs too. I try really hard not to judge pop artists too harshly, what with pop being fairly generic overall, but still, when I see talent being wasted it just makes me really angry lol.

As for Ninja Sex Party, yep, I listen to them for the jokes more than I do for the music. If you like them, you’ll likely enjoy “Don’t Start a Band” by Reel Big Fish and “The Beards Club” by The Beards as well.

I’m only getting drunker and only having more fun!

Out of all the songs you listed, two I already heard, yes, it was in fact comfortably numb which is a good chill track and also dan avaidans cover of the last unicorn which I agree was beautiful. Besides “why can’t we be friends?” And true, the vibes what does it for smash mouth. They do get a lot of shit though unfortunately. When I have time I’ll go through this list and see what’s poppin for me. And it’s not too much. Send as much as you want man. /) and a I agree with your statement, that song by Miley could’ve impacted SO much more hadn’t she made a damn fool of herself before hand, but hey, missed opportunities happen everyday. shrugs and NSP I never listened for music wise. I just love the hilarious lyrics. Then again bands like them were never mean’t to be taken seriously anyway. Kinda like the lonely island.

First off, Ninja Sex Party is hilarious. I love Danny and Brian from the bottom of my heart. They’re not great (musically-speaking, and again, that’s just an opinion), but they are funny as Hell.

And sure, if you’d like some recommendations, I’ve got some. Heck, thanks for asking! =D These are a few of my favorites (various genres):

  1. Pink Floyd - “Comfortably Numb” (I’m sure you’ve heard it, but they’re my fav, so I had to mention it xD)

  2. Reel Big Fish - “Don’t Start a Band”

  3. This Will Destroy You - “Quiet” (entirely instrumental)

  4. Supertramp - “Just Another Nervous Wreck”

  5. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - “The Impression That I Get”

  6. The Beatles - “Come Together” (Robin Williams did a very respectable cover of the song too, which I feel deserves mentioning)

  7. The Beatles - “I am the Walrus” (another great Beatles song that got covered quite well, this time by another actor, Jim Carrey)

  8. The Littlest Man Band - “Always Sayin’”

  9. Smash Mouth - “Why Can’t We be Friends?” (I know that a lot of people hate Smash Mouth, and I don’t particularly like them either, but I do like the energy that this cover brings to the table for what is otherwise a very loving and laid-back song; the music video is also pretty fun)

  10. Alkaline Trio - “Private Eye”

  11. Eddie Money - “Life for the Taking” (the guitar solo is amazing)

  12. Fort Minor - “Slip Out the Back” (a pretty powerful rap track about fear and the thought of suicide)

  13. Bad Religion - “New Dark Ages”

  14. Linkin Park - “Hands Held High” (probably my favorite song they’ve produced, which is odd, because the majority of it is just rap… but I really like the angry and fed-up message it sends)

  15. Rush - “YYZ”

  16. The Beards - “The Beards Club” (a hilarious song about having a beard, which is admittedly pretty much all they write/sing about)

  17. They Might be Giants - “Doctor Worm” (I’ll never get this song out of my head… and I’m thankful for that)

  18. The Pogues - “The Fairytale of New York” (if you can get past the lead singer, who sounds as though he’s dying, it’s a wonderful story that actually manages to make a Christmas song actually listenable)

  19. Johnny Cash - “25 Minutes to Go”

  20. Leigh Daniel Avidan - “The Last Unicorn Theme” (if you’re a fan of Dan, you’ll probably enjoy this song; it’s very pretty, in my personal opinion)

  21. Bomb the Music Industry! - “Sweet Home Canada” (a depressing, depressing song lol, and it isn’t even emo!)

  22. Emilie Autumn - “Fight Like a Girl” (a female fight song that somehow doesn’t alienate men; also has an insane music video which I have to assume costed her/her record label a lot of money to produce lol)

  23. Shinobu - “Shoot the Sky Down” (a punk song about not accepting normality and vying to do something to be remembered for)

  24. MOTH - “Stuff” (a local band from Cincinnati, Ohio that I really loved; unfortunately, they got dropped from their label, so they’re hard to find; I actually made a pretty crappy PMV featuring this song)

  25. Sara Bareilles - “Between the Lines” (a melancholy pop song about a degrading relationship, but one that I felt executed the message better than the more generic pop songs about relationships)

A really random honorable mention goes to Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball”, which I felt could have been a much better song had it been sung by a more convincing musician. The song itself is about accidentally destroying a relationship by attempting to knock down the barriers separating the two people. The problem that I have with it is that… I just can’t believe that Miley Cyrus has the intelligence or empathy to back up the song’s message. I mean, really, I’m supposed to believe that this twerking idiot feels legitimate regret for emotionally damaging her lover? No, I can’t believe that. At all. The message of the song is heartfelt and quite sad, but the delivery just fucking ruins it for me. Oh, and the half-naked music video doesn’t help either; seriously, what was up with that?

I wanted to give you a lot to work with, but I hope it wasn’t too much lol. I just really love music and I love sharing it with others too. Here’s hoping that you enjoy a few of them =) .

And yes, before someone says it, tl;dr.

It’s no problem man. Ramble your heart out lol. Sadly enough, I never went out of my way to listen outside my safe zone for some reason. That was a terrible mistake on my part. I mean I could’ve easily done it. But for some reason when I used to waste my life away on MW2 I just did not go outside my bubble. So if you want to ramble here’s your chance lol. If you can list some good bands and songs for me since we have the same tastes, that would be amazing of you. I really need to get caught up! And metallica kinda has went downhill a bit. I only liked a very select few of their songs anyway so shrugs and I hate songs that drag on too. Only one I liked like that was “6969” by Ninja sex party. That was alright.

Pretty much lol, society has that ever-pressing ability to sometimes make us doubt our own likes and dislikes, which when you come down to it is actually a very strange thing. We’re always told not to let the opinions of others ruin things for us… yet we still do. It’s a very fine, and very weird, line to cross.

Then again, there’s always the case where our peers are, in fact, right. For example, I used to be a pretty big Metallica fan, but then came “Saint Anger”… and wow. Everyone ever told me that the album sucked, but more importantly, everyone also told me that the worst song was the song that the album was named for.

At more than five minutes long, the song just seemed to drag on and on, very slowly, and that oppressive snare drum beat just started to turn the screws inside my brain until all I could focus on was the snare itself. All in all, I absolutely hated the song (I can still hear “Saint Anger around my neck, he never gets respect” in my nightmares), though the full album itself was just… uh… average. Boringly average, which should be a crime when it comes to metal.

As for my actual taste in high school, I think I mentioned that I’m a classic rock fan. Fortunately, even though most of my fellow students weren’t, I still had my Music & Arts teacher to fall back on. We were both huge fans of Pink Floyd and we talked about the band on a daily basis, sometimes broaching into topics that could be considered too risky for school (we joked about showing my class the movie version of “The Wall” and wondered how long it would take uptight parents to sue us for “psychological damages” lol).

In the end, even though my fellow students usually disagreed with my musical tastes and sometimes even actively affected my tastes, I feel like I lucked out in high school. I still had a teacher and a few friends that I could talk to about music, and we often had a lot of fun doing it. And, really, what else should music be other than fun? Sure, there’s sad songs and angry songs, but in the end you’re listening to them because you like them, which could be argued as fun in and of itself.

I’m drunk, by the way. Forgive me if I’m rambling, because I tend to do that.

Yeah. Your story is about the same as mine. Except everyone either loved purely rap, rock or country. It was rare to hear ANY FUCKING THING ELSE. Rock I did not mind. But most the kids in my school would listen to most of the, “Gettin money, drugs, bitches.” Bullshit. But I agree, I like those bands you like as well. There was a FEW songs fallout boy had that I liked. But my favorite, is probably some nicely composed epic music mixed with SOME electronics. It’s rare, but when it’s done right… Oh my god lol. Same for metal. Fortunately for me, I never bought into society. I hate following society, even in middle school. I listened to whatever whenever, even brony mixes in the middle of class lol. sorry, As you can tell my friends were few in my case. XD

I will say I had a dubstep phase that lasted like a year and a half. But then I started listening to the birthday massacre again and back to NSP and thought, “OH, Shit why have I been wasting my time with all these electronics?! I’ve missed out!” Lol.

That’s the thing with music, taste in it is often portrayed as EVERYTHING. Instead, I like to look at it as either:

  1. “You know, I don’t like this that much, but I’ll bet someone else really does.”

  2. “Man, this rocks my socks! …But some of my buddies probably disagree. Eh, that’s okay.”

The one time I allowed a social setting to dictate whether or not I liked a band or music genre in general was high school, and man, am I ever glad that it stopped there. The other kids in school would bash bands without ever listening to them, deciding that they were lame simply because their peers thought that they were lame. I found out the hard way that this is a terrible system to follow; you’ll miss out on some great music just because “that one guy said that one band sucked”.

For my high school experience, the bands that were popular to hate were Green Day, My Chemical Romance, and Fallout Boy. While I don’t particularly care for Fallout Boy, the previous two are, in my opinion, pretty great; I particularly liked MCR’s “Welcome to the Black Parade” (the whole album, not just the awesome song). While perhaps a little too emo for me to enjoy all the time, I felt that the track, Teenagers, pretty well encapsulated how angry and frustrated teenagers usually are.

I’m a classic rock kind of guy myself, but I tend to listen to most music in general. The only things I try to ignore are generic rap tracks about bitches and money, and of course, generic modern country songs that sound more like pop than they do country. But that’s just me, as I’m aware that there’s still a popular market for both.

And thanks! It’s hard to see, but the original text for my avatar was, “Skate or die, bro. You either skate. Or you die.”

Agreed. My friends were the same. I assume because it was a bad thing socially people just agreed shrugs to each their own. I prefer metal, rock or some old school emo music. (I love your toad Avatar by the way lol)

It all depends on taste, really.

Back before I listened to him, I had friends telling me that Skrillex was the worst thing ever. After listening to his stuff myself… I really couldn’t understand where they were coming from. Dubstep isn’t my favorite genre, but it’s certainly not the bane of all existence either.

Again, it all comes down to taste.

I know this is two years old but agreed. Skrillex was ok for the time. Bangarang was ok, i will agree that voltage is probably one of his best. However, i will always like bands like knife party (and it’s brony equivalent balloon party), pendulum, and monster catz. Yes I know they are different genres blah blah blah. I’m just saying skrillex is too hard on the dubz for me.

@AllTheDamnPancakes
Okay… so it’s not his best work. But what about the songs on his Bangarang Album? Those were sick tunes. And knowing that Sonny Moore has worked with other artists who are more like friends to him than just people to work with. He seems like a pretty cool guy, and he’s really earned my respect for not just making music, but for his personality of playing cool and being nice. He’s close friends with Joel Zimmerman (Deadmau5), His Ex-Girlfriend is Ellie Goulding. He parties hard as hell. And has a damn good singing voice.

Yeah, ketamine and most other dissociatives make dubstep a lot more enjoyable for me. Most other times, I just don’t listen to it and try not to judge everyone else for that odd social crime of -gasp- not having the same taste in music as me.

Oh, and MDMA makes just about all music more enjoyable. It’s like I can feel it or something… at least when I’m not rubbing my face on the carpet and otherwise getting completely distracted =P .
Twinhead-B

@RekinSharky

I understand that Trance and DnB sound nothing alike. :)

The point is that there are too many different sub-genres in this one, all-encompassing genre, and because of that, it can get a might bit confusing for some.
RekinSharky

@Twinhead-B
Dubstep/dnb and Trance doesn’t sound at all alike! Yes, we need those names. Go to di.fm and listen to the dubstep/dnb channel and compare to trance channel. Doesn’t even ring the same bell :)
