Is cousin-shipping really that taboo in Western countries?

Here in Asia, there are still people who marry their first cousins(though its rare), and as far as I can see, their children still turn out fine.

Personal experience, as I’ve got a close friend whose parents are cousins, and another friend who’s currently dating his cousin.
