Maybe she was near death by the time she got to them, and she told them the location of Fluttershy.
I’m still trying to figure out how exactly she did that. The best I’ve got is that she fell down dead in the snow and the other two ponies managed to follow her footprints (which should probably have been covered over by the constantly falling snow) all the way back to the others.
Rainbow sacrificed her life to find help so that Fluttershy, Sweetie Bell and Applebloom could live.
