I think its a lot simpler than that, actually. Allow me to explain:
Hasbro thinks pink is for girls (like a lot of dumbass corporations), but they’ve been told that girls are not so into “girly” stuff now - they like things a little more “rebellious”. Therefore, to be “rebellious” and appeal to the changing demographic, Hasbro added a black stripe to Pinkie Pie’s pink mane, thereby (at least in their minds) bridging the gap between “girly” things and “rebellious” things.
Tl;dr Pink is girly, black is considered edgy, therefore a “gothic” Pinkie Pie will appeal to a wider consumer base.
For an added layer of logic, Hasbro’s EqG line is competing against Monster High, which has naturally dark and edgy tones. However, the EqG line is horrendous, so chances are Hasbro are “gothing up” the pony designs because they’re more likely to sell among the same target demographic that Monster High dolls are aimed at.
By this I meant the toys, not this image specifically.
