Spoiler: Post season 5 onwards
But now this fact isn’t true, now there’s Thorax the new Changling King, and Prince Rutherford, motherly stallion Sunburst, even Sandbar and Gallus are having positive portrayal and so more.

I found this refreshing after all the shitty sexism against girls in many many other cartoons. What a balancer.

Okey now we know next to fucking notting about Sombra ,he may have foreseen the Changeling threat and therefore see that the Crystal Empire is out of their reach thus defending Equestria from the parasites .It is possible that Sombra went deranged from all the time he kept the Crystal Empire in what I can only guess, a “Phase-shift”. 10/10 Sombra is a good king

MLP: FIM has nothing to do with misandry. I don’t see what is so sexist and racist about it. It’s just most people get the wrong idea about it. I see it as a cartoon series. It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white or male or female. It is for everybody or should I say “everypony” to enjoy.

My question is why does everything have to be made into a political matter? Not everything is an attempt to make one group or another feel bad about themselves or feel superior. Just because a group is not represented in something doesn’t mean that thing is meant to be a slight against them, sometimes the people working on something just can’t find an interesting way to fit them in and frankly, I’d feel less insulted if a group I were part of weren’t included at all or in any major roles than if they made a “token” character.

Besides, not every male who strives to better his position is depicted negatively; Fancy Pants is described as being the most influential Pony (apart from the Princesses) in Canterlot, true he only plays a major role in one episode, but it IS something. Not to mention that as Discord was originally regardless of gender what he wanted to achieve had already been established as a problem and in the case of Spike’s maturation it was treated as a problem because of the side effects, if he simply grew and did not turn into a rampaging cleptomaniac it would have been fine.

Another issues to consider is that any young boys watching will have other shows with male role models, I’ve noticed that a number of articles expressing concern over a show fail to take into account that this isn’t the only show the audience will be watching. And really if they had changed the gender of one of the main characters people would have jumped all over it and said “So you’re saying girls can be anything but (whatever that character was)?” You simply can’t please everyone, and it makes me wonder why anyone even tries to anymore since it generally results in straying too far from what you originally wanted to do and still receiving complaints.

Of course the real problem is that the media is expected to teach children values instead of their parents and really if you can’t teach your children the values that you want them to have, you probably shouldn’t have children at all

Who Was This Guy Again?
Oh boy, another one of these? About misandry/sexism this time? Anything can be seen as any sort of sin/evil/unmentionable/uncivilized/whatever with the proper viewpoint. To demonstrate, let me “prove” that MLP:FIM is anti-feminist.

1: All the guards in the show are male.
2. Feeling Pinkie Keen: The flowerpot, anvil, and piano that fall on Twilight. A few seconds later, we see two mares getting scowled by a male, implying that it was one of the mares that dropped it.
3: Winter Wrap Up: The ponies using the snow plows are male. And when Twilight tries to keep up using her skills, she causes a bigger mess.
Conclusion: Females are weak, clumsy, and incompotent.

Yup. That easy. OP has three points as to why FIM is anti-male, I show it’s anti-female with three points. We could go on and on with this, but in the end, all we do is make a lot of noise.

Seriously though, i’m getting annoyed with this feminist agenda crap as of late. Just enjoy the damn freaking show. When you start digging that deeply into shows, it’s time for a tinfoil suit, not just the hat.

I sort of agree, but i dont think its done by design and i dont think we need more male characters thrown in just to be male characters. We saw where that goes - fucking Flash Sentry. Whos design i want to burn out of canon with a blowtorch.

In the villains case, i dont think any of them had better or worse motives. Weve had one male and one female redeemed too.

I suspect the show arrived at this by accident rather than design, and its really not a big deal. Shining Armor certainly defies most of that. in fact hes in sort of the other way around. Existing to defend females when the most powerful females are rendered helpless, indeed he himself is being harmed by what is basically succubus. Which are themselves more aimed at misogyny than the other way around.

@mana the immortal
Shining Armor: foreleg candy for the Pretty Pink Princess that keeps stealing the actual main characters’ thunder in a desperate attempt to make us like her.
Discord: I’ll give you that.
Big Mac: practically mute and devoid of anything resembling a personality.
Fancy Pants: one shot character.

Don’t get me wrong, I disagree with this guy, but I can see where he’s coming from.

The Fluffiest
See the thing about ‘needs a guy character’ is, that’s bullshit. There are plenty of shows with great male characters. Let the ladies have one.
