The first and last are a stretch; there’s no “war for acceptance” and it’s not a “cultural identity” so much as pony being a newfound common ground between different people.

A fandom is (almost) never a culture.
 
There is no shared ideology, no shared form of cultural expression which is unique to it, and pretty much nothing that binds it together other than the like for a show/art/whatever.
 
I don’t mean to diminish what bronydom can be to people, a forum that brings together individuals which wouldn’t have met otherwise, but don’t treat it like something it simpy isn’t.

While it is true that nobody should make fun of a group of persons because of the shows they’re watching, or their disabilities, or whatever (but I hope everyone already knows that here); I think the OP is exaggerating the importance of brony hating. Seriously, “slurs we have to face on a day to day basis”? It’s been at least six months since I last saw a hater.

Bronydom is even less a lifestyle than the furry fandom at large, and neither one is even remotely comparable to the shit people have to go through for being gay.
