Well, after that, and after Amy Keaton Rogers touched on the whole Derpy situation, and when they confirmed Derpy wasn’t being removed from the show, (yet ironically was already barely featured in S3) things did calm down after that.

I guess it depends on what website you’re on, but on places like DA the “Derpygate situation” calmed down after a few weeks.

3 weeks? I wish. People were pissed at Hasbro for months after that, and throughout the whole of season 3 people were desperately searching for any sign of Derpy in the episodes. The whole thing was only really put to rest once she made a proper appearance in the S3 finale.

The Derpygate incident only lasted like 3 weeks, so it didn’t seem that bad to me honestly. Though it was pretty annoying while it was going on, I admit.

Alright sorry about the Scoots & Sweetie thing.

I pulled the 50% figure out of my ass and don’t have any way to easily back it up, but for the same reason you can’t easily refute it. That said, if the figure were very low (<10%) then we wouldn’t still be talking about it. The fact is an awful lot of people were awfully pissed off about it. The drama was comparable in magnitude to the derpy incident.

For contrast, how many people were outspoken about their hatred for Discord and claimed that those episodes had ruined the show? If it was as simple as a vocal minority of mindless haters then we would expect to see a similar level of hatred for every episode. The fact is, this kind of fandom outcry is reserved for only the worst mistakes, such as retroactively editing a popular character out of the show.

Finally, you didn’t actually read my post properly. I said that SB and Scoots were added to the show by Hasbro, not Faust, and that they are a good addition. I was giving an example of a less-than-perfect decision by Faust.

Y’know, it was actually Hasbro’s idea to get Lauren Faust to make the show. If they didn’t approach her to make it, Faust never would’ve been interested in making a MLP cartoon. So if it weren’t for Hasbro either, there’d be no MLP:FiM. Apparently, they did want it to be more modern, and edgier, if they came to her to make it.

Actually, most of the fandom from what I’ve seen aren’t that bothered by the “rising alicorn” population. (Which is only 2 as far as I can remember.)
In fact, the anti-alicorn drama pics tend to get alot of downvotes on this site.
As for the “controversial” E.G. movie, the hate for it’s actually died-down sense it came out.
Even a friend of mine who saw it whom thought the E.G. movie was “mediocre,” said even she thought it didn’t deserve all the hate it was getting before it came out.
So not everyone hates E.G. either. You can’t jump to the conclusion that 50% of the fanbase hates those things, consdering how large, and widespread the fanbase is online.

The thing is, people who hate things online tend to be more vocal, and outspoken then the ones who do like things.
Like on DeviantArt, most Sonic fans on it hate the Archie “Sonic the Hedgehog” comic book series yet, the pro-Archie Sonic club has more members/watchers then the anti-one does, and the Sonic comic book is selling well enough to last over 20 years now, support 2 simultaneous Sonic comics, a quarterly magazine, and has a huge amount of reprint/compilation books of older issues.
(Personally, I like the Sonic comics.)

Also, if the show is truely as overly “toy-etic” as people claim, then how come we haven’t seen Applejack’s truck in the show? (Which I think it should) Or how come we haven’t seen a Babs Seed toy yet, or something?
The only toy tie-in episodes in S3 were “Crystal Empire,” and “Magical Mystery Cure,” out a half season. (Yet, nobody complains about the hot-air balloon toy being advertised at the beginning of every episode. Doesn’t that just scream, “Buy our toys?”)
The show always was a toy-commercial, just a very entertaining one.

Also, Sweetie Belle & Scootaloo were both actually G3 characters previously. So Faust didn’t create those characters, other then redesigning them in looks/personality.
Also I don’t see why they’re “bad ideas.” The CMC were kinda cute & funny, and also a bit relatable to the li’l kids watching.

decisions.”@Background Pony
“Whether you like these things or not, the fact that ~50% of the fandom dislikes them is proof enough that they were dubious”

Where do you got these nice statistics?
Background Pony #4293
@Ebalosus
You can’t seriously claim that the commercial aspect of the show doesn’t detract from it, at least a little bit. Sure, Faust isn’t exclusively responsible for the show being good and she probably even made quite a few bad suggestions at times (SB and Scoots wouldn’t have existed if it were up to her), but I assure you it wasn’t Hasbro’s idea to try and make the show exceed its basic marketing requirements. The fact that they signed off on G3.5 proves that they don’t give two shits about producing a quality show.

As for examples of it harming the show, just look at the current situation with the rapidly growing Alicorn population or the entire premise of EQG. Whether you like these things or not, the fact that ~50% of the fandom dislikes them is proof enough that they were dubious decisions. I think almost everyone would have been much happier if we’d had, say, an hour long movie with actual ponies in it.

I can, like the original color schemes she wanted for the ponies weren’t as colorful as the final result. In fact, 2 of them were going to be pink. Nothing against “pink,” but having them be the same color seems a bit less varried.
Nothing against G1, but I’m kinda glad Fyre Flye was redesigned into “Rainbow Dash,” ‘cause I kinda like her rainbow hair colors, (in a way, she made rainbows “cool” during a time when rainbows are mocked by people) and “Dash” sounds more like a tomboy character. (As opposed to the G3 version, which was more like Rarity into clothes, and stuff.)
I also like how pegasus Surprise became the earth pony Pinkie Pie, because I like how her lack-of-wings give less explanation for how she does strange/impossible/random things.

Also, originally Lauren Faust also wanted to have Applejack head-butt trees to pick apples. (Could you imagine all the head-trauma jokes that would’ve brought?) That would’ve looked kinda silly, so I’m glad they replaced that with “apple-bucking,” which also seems a bit more horse/pony-like to me.

So while Faust did a great job modernizing, and redesigning MLP’s universe, she’s not infalible, and I’m actually glad a few things of her’s were changed. (And to be honest, I still think the show is good, even without her unput. I don’t really see much difference in Season 3’s writing/dialogue style then previous seasons, or why it’s so “bad.”)

I liked “Cars 2,” though the whole adventure themes did make it feel a li’l out-of-place compared to the previous more “slice-of-life” one, and most of the characters from the previous movie only made cameos basically. (Still, Mater’s remarks, and the Japanese bathroom scene were pretty funny.)

+1 because it puts to death the both the idea that “only the creator does it right” and the inapplicable Auteur Theory.

Seriously, I am sick to death of the Auteur Theory being applied to FiM. Guess what? MLP, for better or for worse, has always been Hasbro’s baby, ergo it will serve Hasbro’s needs. What needs are those? To shill toys! The purpose of the show has always been to shill toys.

Yes, Faust was a positive impact on the franchise, and few would disagree with that. But don’t try and imply that she was the be-all-and-end-all for everything great about the show, because even she agrees that she wasn’t.

Has the show deteriorated since she left? It’s hard to say, and honestly, we probably won’t know for certain until it has finished. I personally do not think it has, and you may disagree, which is fine.

Y’know, while Walt Disney was not a perfect saint, alot of things people say about him, (and his company) aren’t true.
Like “Family Guy,” and such were spreading the rumors that Walt was “anti-semetic,” but according to some old people who actually knew Walt, those rumors are NOT true. (Besides, he had Jews work for him, and he even used to make anti-nazi cartoons.) I think it’s unfair to spread rumors about a dead guy who can’t defend himself.

I never really understood all of the Disney hate. Some of it stems from the Disney company buying off Marvel, and Star Wars in recent years, (I wouldn’t really call that a “Monopoly,” other companies own more then that. In fact Warner Bros. owns DC Comics) but so far Marvel seems to be doing their own thing still, and still making violent comics. (Also it might be good for them, as Marvel kept going bankrupt years back, so under Disney that’ll never happen again.)

Not to mention Disney isn’t the only company that does that. Every company does that, even ones you all like. Besides sometimes companies/franchises merging isn’t always a bad thing.
I remember getting a li’l upset back when Peter Laird sold the entire Ninja Turtle franchise to Nickelodeon/Viacom, but the new TMNT show actually proved surprisingly good, and they seem to have more freedom with it, then it would have had under Peter Laird.

In fact, with Rareware going under, I almost wish they/Microsoft would sell-off Banjo Kazooie to another company just so we can get a new Banjo Kazooie video game, and such…

Yea, that whole “you’re actually part alien from an all powerful race” kinda depressed me a bit. Had hoped to see something better than “it’s just you’re an alien and that’s why you can use these abilities. O and magic isn’t real, it’s just tapping into some special energy of the universe.”

@paluzna

Not saying the shows and movies are crap, but I just can’t support Disney playing monopoly. Just me being that cynical A-hole the world wants me to be. Though I am that jerk, I won’t doggedly be that nasty person to others and they have a right to their opinions.

Ben 10 ended in the first series for me.

After the original Ben 10, I notice a lot of plot holes that didn’t line up with the original series such as the Forever Knights, Asmuth, and the Plumbers.

I like the original asshole Asmuth with a stereotypical chinese accent in the original series than some wise “I care for the Universe” wannabe in Alien Force.

Plus, making Gwen an Alien and making magic not real in the Ben 10 universe made me mad. I like the idea that Magic and Alien technology can exist in the same fictional universe, it worked for DC, Marvel, Anime, JRPGS and such, so why not Ben 10?

Not only that, but Jax actually stated he wanted to rally people to commit violent acts against Hasbro… (Just for Twilicorn, the E.G. movie, and such.) He later stated he only said that out of anger, but I wouldn’t even joke about that kinda thing…
(Ponies are not serious business, and Lauren Faust left by her own choice. I loved her work on the show, but I think the show is still enjoyable even without her, and it’s “style” of writing, and such doesn’t seem to different to me.)

He’s full-bore loony, I’m sorry to say.

Have to agree about the invincible hero bullcrap. I liked the earlier show because Ben kept thinking he was invincible, he’s a kid and all, but that was torn down early on. He went back to that mentality, but it remained fresh in his mind from time to time.

One thing I couldn’t stand was how snobbish he became after beating that legion and saving the universe. It went beyond narcissism, and I just didn’t find it all that unique for his character.

I hate to disrespect Crieg and Faust, but I won’t be watching their new show on Disney. I just can’t stand that mouse and his monopoly scheme. Baring all that controversy and crap surrounding Walt Disney himself, the parks, their charm, and these Disney shows just seemed lost as of late, imho.

Only thing I respect are the people behind Pixar and their talents.

seriously dude. dont act like a kid.

about ben10, the first series was alright at the time.
the second was ok-ish but it turned into the invincible hero bullcrap.
the latest isnt that bad, at least the latin version has some good voie acting, and the writting got definetly better.

I just can’t watch Ben10 anymore to be honest. The first show was decent with the character having good progressions, even if the writing dipped time to time. The second series was alright, but the third series was done for pure profit. I refuse to watch the new one.

Dealing with Disney, I respected them. Now, I just can’t watch em cause they are becoming more of a hungry monopoly than ever. Not to mention with the control of Starwars, I am worried more than ever. It went from the hands of its creator who lost site of the creation to the gloved hand of a monopolist, narcissistic mouse. I expect episode 7 to have no less than 5 cameo appearances of the mouse.

Man I HATE CN Real, at lest Disney had the foresight to change the name of Toon Disney to Disney XD before loading a lot of live action shows onto it.
But Cartoon Network…
