The main problem with that picture being that it relies on Twilight accurately guessing the height of said candy cane, from a moving train.

Then again, these are magical talking pastel-colored horsies. Sizing should be the last thing to worry about.

IIRC people have also scaled off stuff like fruit and produced very similar numbers. In the 3-4 foot range, it’s actually surprisingly consistent.
 
I think the “problem” you sometimes is people assuming the show is using the term “pony” correctly rather then in the “small horse” meaning. This is almost assuredly not the case and most indications are that the ‘ponies’ are much closer in scale to miniature horses. Those max out at around 36 inches at the withers, so the head would barely come up to the stomach of the average sized man. That said it’s worth noting that even those breeds can range from 150-250 pounds; although Ponies are a bit stubbier then real miniature horse breeds so likely aren’t quite that heavy.

Y’know, presence of magic explains their strangely large hooves — there’s some magic circuitry in them that short-range provides grip. There’s like no muscles after the last joint and yet its even thicker than the limb at the shoulder. Also correlates with earth ponies being larger and having connection to earth — larger legs have more place for that magic grip that extends into the ground so they feel it better.

And don’t give me that Equestria Girls crap. The are stick figures. Horribly proportioned if you ask me.

They still are way to big! I don’t care what the cartoon makes them out to be. We have NEVER seen a human so a proper comparison is impossible at current. If anything, compare them to Diamond Dogs in size and proportions. The ponies should at least be properly proportioned with humanity.
 
Theoretically speaking… They are a race of evolved ponies so like our ancestors (except we grew larger in size), these equestrian ponies shrank down a bit as their bodies evolved. Their body structured also changed as well. Smaller muzzles, forward facing eyes. larger brains, more pronounced shoulders (to allow them more flexibility, but at the same time still allow them to walk on all fours), and hooves capable of holding on to objects. LOL sorry for the rant.

That picture is making the assumption that Celestia is 14 hands high - there’s no proof that she is or isn’t.

Damn, he’s strong, just casually lifting cartoon ponies up like that.

That and also ponies are drawn as cartoonish as they look in the show while the human is much more authentic.

This is the perfect proportion ratio. You’re just not used to it because pretty much everyone ignores the proper scale and draws ponies not bigger than half the size they should be when they’re with humans.

A bit bigger than I’m used to, but this is still a good size for them. On the other hand, this Anon has terrible taste in pones. Picking Candyass over Lyra? For shame.

It’s the perfect scale. Mew is one of the few people who does ponies the right size in proportion to humans.
