celestia is an Alicorn, her magic is more powerful than normal unicorns , if you have read the tale of the two sisters comic, it is clearly mentioned that yes unicorns can use their magic to raise the sun and moon.However it took several unicorns to do it, mean while celestia and luna can do it easily without any strain! . they have the attributes of all three pony races! They can fly, they have stronger magic, and they are physically stronger! you’re just like any other hater, who joins the others on the whole “ i hate celestia and alicorns “ bandwagon , without any logical argument ! The reason why star swirl the bearded helped turn celestia and luna into alicorns!

Power of Plot Progression- something the show writers should really reconsider using, since it’s generally associated with a drop in the quality of a product.
Background Pony #4403
How come in the co ics she is so much stronger but In the show she can be blown over by a fart?

@Millennial Dan
“I don’t see why people dislike the idea anyway”…Because its completely contrary to all manner of logic or aging perhaps? Seriously, what the hell? Not only is there no evidense of this beyond a falicy of statements between S1 and S2, it defies all logic and makes Equestria far more overly complicated if mortal ponies lived that long. If they aged that much slower, then the events of Cutie Mark Chronicles would of happened THIRTY years ago instead of 9-12 years. That sounds like nonsense.

Seriously dude, she’s nothing special age-wise. The hundreds of years part was just an exaggeration considering Ponyville’s 80-or-so year old backstory was revealed later on. The writers made that obvious.

All your other responses were enormous, wild guesses not based on anything we’ve seen in the show. Even if she was hundreds of years old, which she isn’t, it would still have absolutely no bearing on Celestia’s special case whatsoever.

It’s this debatable thing where Twi said that Winter Wrap-up was done without magic for hundreds of years by earth ponies. Granny Smith, meanwhile, was one if the founding members of Ponyville itself.

People have made the conclusion that Granny is hundreds of years old as a result.

I think Twi meant that earth pony towns like Ponyville have done it without magic for a long time, but that’s just me.
CronoM

@Millennial Dan
Seriously, before you even ATTEMPT to reply using more of your insanity, please tell me the logic leap that made you believe EVEN FOR A SECOND that Granny Smith was hundreds of years old?
CronoM

@Millennial Dan
(Jaw drops at the sheer stupidity of the arguments)

I……I….

Nope.
Nope. Nope. Nope.

Sorry, your arguments have separated themselves SOOOOO far away from logic that it would be insulting to humanity to even respond. The nonsensical arguments…the retarded leaps of logic(granny smith hundreds of years whaaa?)…the sheer mental fails….

Even if I was to point out all the major flaws in all of your arguments…AGAIN…nothing would register. Goodbye.

@CronoM
Oh, brother. You’re not even following along very well, let alone providing decent arguments.

Looks, existence is not the question here. You were using the argument that the use of certain phrases proves divinity. That’s nonsense. Public opinion of the ponies, which you don’t even know with any certainty, proves absolutely nothing.

The world does not depend on Celestia’s existence, they can get by without her. That’s like saying the civilized world’s existence depends on grocery stores. Some of us would be in a real jam without them, but if they ceased to exist, we’d be forced to either remember how we did without them before or starve. That sure doesn’t make supermarkets divine.

Granny Smith is hundreds of years old. Where on earth are you getting your numbers? And besides, we even know now that there are age spells that can keep a pony young forever, if that pony is strong enough to perform it.

Lots of unicorns are born with celestial cutie marks. Pool those ponies together, and raising the sun or moon is doable. It’s a matter of history. There’s no reason to believe it “can’t be done” any more. It’s just a matter of knowledge. And, I’ll say again, it’s pretty lame for Celestia to keep that knowledge to herself.

You like to bring up Greek mythological deities a lot, without ever acknowledging their spiritual aspects and ceremonial worship. Besides that, you give no support whatsoever to the idea that Celestia’s position has been elevated since S1. Instead, it’s been shown time and again just how weak she really is.

Yes, Celestia secretly monitored Twilight in particular, with some glorified version of a crystal ball. She had no right to do that either, by the way. So she was watching one pony with some magical “technology” if you like, and there’s no reason to believe that any other pony could not have done the same thing from within that little sub-dimension or whatever it is.

Time and time again, even from the show’s creator herself, we see that Celestia is meant to be no more than a powerful pony. Why is that so hard to accept? Why so desperate to prop her up?
CronoM

@Millennial Dan
If its getting old, why are you using the weakest arguemnts imaginamble?

>George doesn’t exist, Celestia does. Every pony in Equestria knows of her.

>Johhny Depp has critics and his job is an actor, Celestia raises the sun for the entire world, the entire world depends on her existance

>Granny Smith is in her 80s and she’ll die soon. Natural. Celestia is over 1000 and she hasn’t aged a day. Your point is WORTHless.

>Only the unicorns as a whole could do it back then, and no longer in modern times. Otherwise the sun and moon error in S4 would of been fixed immediately. Name me one unicorn that alone could raise the sun or moon.

>They’ve elevated her status, but emphasized her flaws. When you introduce a Chaos god like Discord, the concept of flawed gods that were born once are emphasized more. Do you know how many mistakes the gods made in Greek mythology?

>Funny, Celestia apparently had every event of Twilight’s life recorded, and knew when Twilight was making a mess of the town in Lesson Zero. The non-omniscient gods can enter people’s dreams and see the lives of particular people, but not all at once. How is that ANY different from Zeus from the show Hercules? He sure wasn’t observing many but his son’s life on earth, but his power controlled the weather on Earth.

If your going to try to prove me wrong, why use arguments that are uncomparable? Seriously, comparing Granny Smith with Celestia? What was even the point with that? We on earth have old people, we don’t have 1000 year old immortals who raise the sun.

Alright, as quickly as I can, because this is getting old.

>Expressions and phrases
If I say, “By George!”, that does not make George a god. Duh.

>Devotion and outlook(?)
If absurd devotion to a person makes them a deity, Johnny Depp must be Jupiter.

>Old age
By all accounts, Granny Smith is ancient. Big deal.

>Raise the sun and moon
An ability that other unicorns possess. Not that special.

>Faust’s intentions
If anything, Celestia has become less impressive since season one. Trying to say that S2 and beyond have elevated her is just not consistent with the facts.

It’s like I said elsewhere; I have no idea why some people insist that they be referred to as goddesses when that clearly isn’t the case. Pray to Celestia, and she won’t hear. Worship Celestia, and you’ll just look like a fool. It’s absurd.
CronoM

@Millennial Dan
That’s a bold statement, and way out of left field from what we’ve seen from the show.

According to the godly expressions they’ve used, and Twilight’s near cultist devotion and outlook of her, its really not unheard of to see a thousand year old pony twice anybodies size who controls the sun AND the moon if need be, as a deity. In fact its more or less common sense.

Night and day don’t happen without her power in place, as the unicorn mages of old, who likely pooled their power, no longer exist.

Even Faust said that while she didn’t intend for the two to be goddesses originally, that’s what they became by Season 2 in the show. That was at least HER interpretation, and she knew the old scripts and plans better then anyone.

Even if she has them, that doesn’t mean she should. She is, in the end, the same as every other pony out there, just older and with a little more magic and information at her disposal.

Among other major issues that I could point out, there is this simple fact: deities are beings of worship, praise, and utmost devotion. Celestia is most definitely NOT such a being. Worshiping her would be just as ill-informed as worshiping Caesar.
CronoM

@Background Pony #C3B3
What makes little difference is the semantics people are trying to force on them not being gods when they have powers Apollo would be envious of.

I really don’t see why people are so upset at this idea if them being gods when its a fictional world where lesser gods could exist.
Background Pony #19D7
@CronoM
For the love of Mike, you spend all this time arguing that Celestia and Luna are gods and now say it makes little difference?
CronoM

@Background Pony #C3B3
In her book, she said.

For the love of Celestia and other such things were added in S2.

Regardless, the line between a god and a god stand-in is meaningless if you are the pillar of night and day for 1000 years, so it makes little difference does it?
Background Pony #E06B
@Millennial Dan
Ah, watch it again then. While Chysalis did indeed have vast stores of power, during the beam struggle it looked effortless to Celestia while it looked like Chysalis, no exaggeration here….was going through a mild stroke just to keep the beam intensity high enough to win.

I agree that she’s far more tiers below Aslan, I originally used Alsan as an example due to the fact that, like in Narnia, they live with their ‘god’ in a magical haven with almost no humans. Of course in Narnia, Alsan’s life was since the beginning of time in Narnia…around 1900 in the human world as I heard, while Celestia’s was just a mere 1000 years old.

Regardless, in what way is she weaker then Zeus? She’s far more powerful then Apollo, who needed a chariot while Celestia moves the Sun AND moon with just her subconscious power. As Luna showed near the end of Nightmare Night, they can change form at will just like the Greek Gods. And while lots of representations show the Greek Gods as guys who can grow into giants, there’s no issue of size on the spiritual plane.

….hold the phone here. Heh. Were literally pitting Celestia against the power-ancestor of the pegasi race…The show made it abundantly clear in every single way that the pegasi are ancient ponies blessed by Zeus’ power.

With this and Tartarus’ existance, we could easily assume Zeus might have had some hand in Equestria’s original creation. It is a mid-world afterall with certain rules of reality different from our own, it had to have a creator and a beginning.

@CronoM
No, Chrysalis was still quite vigorous after overpowering Celestia. She was overestimating the Princess’ power, but she chalked it up to Shining Armor’s love instead of realizing that Celestia’s actually kind of weak.

By the way, Aslan did indeed have a father, but he was not “born”. He proceeded from his father, but eternally so. There was never a moment when he was birthed.

As for Zeus, he at least still possessed a spiritual element that was supposedly of a divine essence, which Celestia decidedly lacks.

Even if Celestia could be considered a deity (which she cannot), she would be many tiers below Zeus, and VERY many below Aslan.
CronoM

@Millennial Dan
Last I checked the scene, the fully charged demon Chysalis nearly COLLAPSED overpowering Celestia who was just underestimating her. It was one of the few trope breakers where the super powered villain is the underdog, but wins.

@d715
Depends on your terminology. Twilight said the statement “Celestia just like us!?” And RD used the term “For the love of Celestia!” This denotes godhood of Celestia and Luna.

Next you’ll be telling me Discord isn’t a chaos god.

Zeus was a fictional god. He was born once, then banished his titan father. Even Aslan was born from someone, the Emperor Across the Sea i.e. Our Father, Who Art in heaven.

@CronoM
Total nonsense. Aslan MADE the sun in Narnia, Celestia just moves it. There were many creatures in Narnia like Celestia, and they were subject to him. Aslan founded the world with his singing, and an age can’t be assigned to him, but we know Celestia hasn’t always ruled. She’s also terrible in a fight, unlike the deadly lion. There’s no comparison.
