After Discord’s fall and That-which-would-become Chrysalis’ corruption, Sombra, a meek and shy unicorn mage began to look up means of becoming stronger in hopes of protecting others…and eventually lost sight of his goal and became what you see here.
I actually like Sparity (Though admittedly not as much as Rarijack) and I enjoy the IDW comics, but I don’t really count them as canon.

Those feeling were the “I feel under-appreciated and unhelpful” ones, the ones we saw that the Nightmare took advantage of to possess Rarity.
But they were still acting on feelings that Rarity legitimately had. Like Luna and her jealousy the Nightmare amplifies feelings you already have.
That it wasn’t Rarity reciprocating his feelings, but the nightmare forces taking advantage of his crush.

Not quite. All the other mane 6 plus spike remembering what they loved about her saved her, after a 5-way friendship beam plus Luna doing some sort of fancy horn surgery. It had the side-effect of restoring the broken heart-gem though, so I don’t say it’s not shippy as hell.

You mean in the “Nightmare Rarity” issues? What was so shippy about it apart from Spike’s crush on her?
