Actually, Mr and Mrs Cake might be spared, unless their names actually happen to be “Mr” and “Mrs Cake”. As I recall, you had to get the name exactly right for it to work.
Fair enough. And a dead stallion, too. Spike would still probably be spared though. Unless Equestrian Death Notes don’t specify race at all, but then shinigami themselves might be vulnerable.

After all, IIRC, the Death Note’s first eulw is “The human whose name is written in this note shall die.” Key word being human.
