Derpy looks kinda weird. So does Fluttershy, but on another way that’s explained (although that doesn’t prevent it from looking awful).

Jimmy Two-Shoes is the name of a cartoon where a kid goes to hell to make fun or somesuch. But outside of that, i do not think people in real life go by “Two-Shoes”, unless it’s their nickname or artistic name.

Yeah, Derpy sounds odd for an odd character, it’s about as good as Goofy being named Goofy, or Gogo the Dodo, or Andy Panda, it’s got a classic ‘comedy character’ ring to it.  
She’d fit in with names like Gabby Gator, Knothead the woodpecker (which is actually an archaic term for someone that just derped, ala birdbrain), Dapper Denver Dooley, hey, actually I just thought of someone who could be considered similar ‘name-wise’ to Derpy.  
Mammy Two-Shoes from Tom&Jerry. Is anyone going to argue that Two-shoes is a real name? Of course not, that’d be silly! So I always took Derpy/Bubble(whatever) as being similar to classic comedy characters whose ‘names’ are actually their traits.

Which is one reason I prefer “Derpy” to “Ditzy” (the other being I think “Derpy” just sounds more offbeat), just not to the degree that I get upset over the use of “Ditzy” or anything.

Ditzy is too much of a universal and specified insult though. (Mind you something she displays only a single trait of as well) so I never felt it fit, or was workable in the least.

Before this thread gets flooded with comments calling you a heretic and a traitor, I wanted to add that while I like calling her Derpy, I’ve always viewed it (and maybe Ditzy Doo, too) as a nickname, because I just can’t see that being an actual pony name. (“Snailsquirm” notwithstanding…) For me, the name doesn’t matter much; I’m just happy when she shows up, acting in a goofy/playful/eccentric manner.

I guess you guys had better classify me with the social justice “warriors” and “politically correct” types you love to bash. For what it’s worth, I’m a little glad Hasbro didn’t stick with the Derpy name, but very happy that they apologized for using it in such an uncharacteristically lackwitted way. I’m even chill with the fact that they edited the episode after the fact because WOAH was that ever a shitfisted delivery.
 
The use of TPFKAD symbols is clearly an ironic poke at the entitled douches who get angry at such things. And it is awesome.
 
tl;dr - if I have to be labelled a “social justice warrior” now and thus Beyond the Pale, I really want to be issued a helmet with an adorable little slot for the mane.
