Ponies man! It’s because of ponies I tell you!
I based those numbers off a given height (5’5” for average woman) and an average and health level of body fat. If someone is 200+ lbs and 6’ tall, it could be anything from 15% body fat and they’re absolutely ripped (muscle weighs more than fat) or they’re 50+% body fat in which case they’re quite obese. The ponies are quite strong, especially earth ponies, so I imagine they’re healthy whatever fat % they are.
That artist you posted generally draws them a lot larger and stockier then they are in the show (quite a bit closer to actual horses and other animals, humans are quite small and fragile members of the animal kingdom) but that’s not bad, just not really my cup of tea. (And no I don’t like twigs, or frail and skinny super model types…basically I like them like my own body type)
I like them as they are, whatever they are, as well as how they’re drawn by most artist, so whatever they are is great but somehow we went from height to healthy weight and stuff xD
I weight 225 and am not overweight by any means… I don’t have a gut nor do I slouch (I also stand over 6ft as well). Some people are bigger and some are smaller. Depends on bone structure muscle mass and other factors. And I think imo an equestrian pony would have a similar bone mass and muscle volume as we humans. It’s just distributed different then ours obviously. But I only say this because its my fair opinion. Everyone is entitled to what they think fits best for their canon. I just want somewhat of a connection so I can find these beings attractive. Otherwise they’re funny looking horses (and I don’t want that.)
And when you try and close the gap it makes then look soo much more sexier in clothing as well!
To be honest without a 3D model (possibly shrinking the head size a bit) I wouldn’t be able to know a ponies weight off of height (whether is be 3’3”, 4’ or whatever). Seeing as Snails and Mr. Cake are damn skinny and Snips is fat and Mrs. Cake is a fair bit larger then the rest I’d say the mane 6 appear to be in the middle and what I’d consider perfect. Regardless of what they weigh they appear perfects normal/healthy. My best guess though is that at 4 feet, a pony with the body type of the mane 6 would probably weight more then a healthy adult male. At 3’3” they’d be ~19% shorter. Because volume (and thus weight) is dependent on all three dimensions they’d weight 53% of what they would if they had identical proportions and were 4 feet. So it would be like a small pony at 3’3” weighing ~120 lbs vs scaled up to 4’ weighing 226…which would be quite heavy. (frankly if they’re considered overweight I wouldn’t’ care because they’re perfect if you ask me) Just more reason for why 4 ft would probably be a bit large.
Anyway with humans, regardless of what body type you like, at the average female height (in USA) of 5’5” 160 would be considered slightly overweight with 180 being moderately obese. As most the world know the US is fat, and the average female is 165 lbs here which is considered rather overweight. (the average male being 195 which is about the same BMI so again being overweight) Pudgy is just a light hearted term for saying “overweight (by little) but I like that so it’s fine” which is fine, but I’m basing things off healthy weight not preference. If a woman of average height weight 180 they’d be 15 lbs heavier than me and 7 inches shorter and I’m practically spot in the middle of “ideal” weight so what’s that say.
160 is overweight? Really? I couldn’t possible stand a toothpick thin pony. I need some curves. And a pudgy pony is a sexy pony imo. SO 160-180 is perfectly fine again imo.
And about their eyes, they’re magical ponies who are made of marshmallows. They almost never appear to have no bones (legs move in a smooth motion as if they had a spine in each leg) yet still have joints. Their hooves bend in amazing ways, even if they’re soft they’d have to have articulated hooves. They can physically stretch any given limb, I don’t even know how that would be possible with biology as we understand it. Their body makes magic, again not sure how to explain how that’d work. Pegasai can fly with tiny wings flapping way too slow, clearly physics are different. Their jaw can do impossible things based on ordinary biology. Their tails are like muscle and can move and lift things. I think you get my point, ignore biology as we know it.
Besides, from side views you can see their eyes have the same curve as their head meaning their eyes (if they were spheres) would be the size of their head!! They look creepy with small eyes and adorable with their big beautiful eyes. If say don’t even try to explain how their eyes work and just accept they do. I mean come on, they appear in 2D but move in 3D space, things are bound to be different.
“What I meant by similar size was an equestrian pony standing on their hind legs. So if lets say Twilight was standing next to a human girl, she would equal her height only if she was standing on her hind legs. Otherwise when on all fours she would be about the same as the picture here.”
I did a bunch of calculations. If their height standing is that of the average female then on all fours they would be ~4 ft (lucky you). However because they have relatively short legs (compared to standing height) I also calculated their height if they had similar upper body length (top of head to hips…no there were no ulterior motives…okay maybe one xD) and it came out to around 3’3” (the height I like conveniently). So I guess base height off what you’d like, but being specifically called little ponies I figured they should have quite a difference in height from irl ponies. (plus if the mane 6 are 4 ft then Celestia is HUGE and I imagine her about the height of a human)
“_ Twilight (in my opinion) is around 18-22, so she would probably weigh around 160-180 lbs._”
In what country?! For that age and average height that is quite overweight. Considering the ponies are quite slim (and positively sexy if I do say so myself) they’re probably not that much (if human, comparing volume would be difficult without making a 3d model).
What I meant by similar size was an equestrian pony standing on their hind legs. So if lets say Twilight was standing next to a human girl, she would equal her height only if she was standing on her hind legs. Otherwise when on all fours she would be about the same as the picture here.
Get what I mean now? And her weight would be about the same as a human girl around her same age. Twilight (in my opinion) is around 18-22, so she would probably weigh around 160-180 lbs. So for those of you that wanted to pick her up and hug her, it would still be easily possible.
Also their eyes would need to be sized down a bit because honestly they are WAY to large for their cranial size. In another image I’ve seen on this site when you try to compare their eye size, it compares to about the size of a cantaloupe! So lets drop that to maybe a size or two larger than human eyes and we are set!
I think if that were a filly, it would be the appropo size. Otherwise, I don’t see where that size would apply.
I think they should therefore be the size of a miniature pony.
So, around this size featured in the image. Maybe a little bit smaller.
That’s what the foals are for! ^_ ^

This one shows the average mare as 4ft, even so they look quite large, probably larger than an irl pony.

They look massive here with again Twilight being about 4ft. Celestia is way taller than any horse.
K, I’m done now.
@LanceOmikron
Keep in mind the human here is drawn cartoonish (larger proportions then a person actually is (generally)) and the pony is (in the actual pic) drawn differently then they are on the show. I think at this scale they would be rather large, the princesses would be tall but they’re quite skinny so it might be about the same weight wise.
I’d agree, similar size and weight seems like a nice thing, but if they were the same height they would seem massive and crush you from their weight (even being skinny compared to actual horses)
Well this is Twilight, the mane 6 and basically all mares (aside from the princesses) are a bit smaller then the average stallion. Shining Armor/Big Mac/royal guards etc. seem to be much larger then your average stallion.
@OneAmongOthers
That was if they were the full height of a human which would make it about the same as a thoroughbred which are around 1000 pounds. Horses a quite a bit stockier then equestrian ponies but they would still far exceed the size of a human.
@Justy
I like that height far better, I don’t really mind if they’re a bit taller then Tex draws them, but the height in this pic seems too large. Tex draws them as most size comparisons have deemed to be their relative height. (which require many assumptions but we’re talking about comparing dimensions between universes, what do you expect)
I’d honestly rather see them more equal to humans in size and weight ratio. That way it’s not so creepy when you end up sleeping with them. ;)
That’s pretty spot on for size.
Also, thanks for showing me this artist!
