Exactly, that’s what I was saying (or trying to say at least ^^). The two styles are very different, but both equally good. :D

They’re both perfectly legitimate and respectable art design directions. I actually really like the contrast between the cartoony goofiness of the animated foreground with the realistic(ish) painted backgrounds in MLP Tales and find it one of the most charming things about the series; it harkens back to the classic Warner Bros./Merrie Melodies era. I still have more appreciation for the highly stylized environmental art direction of FIM, but they’re both nice in their own way.

I completely agree, the background art in MLP Tales was much more realistic and painterly (if that’s the right word) whereas FiM is far more…well, cartoony. Which is not a bad thing, just saying. :)

So my theory that MLPT and FIM are Parallel universes is correct!

I love FiM, but side by side MLPTales blows it away when it comes to backgrounds.

Looks like the train in My Little Pony Tales does have a tender after all.

Maybe we’ve been getting the numbering system wrong all this time, and we’re really watching Generation -1.

If they were in the same timeline it would be a clear case of consensus technological regression.
