Well, to be fair, anonymous isn’t trying to emulate Guy Fawkes; they’re trying to emulate V.

I think the main reason V chose Guy Fawkes wasn’t the main reasoning behind the man, but THE DAY he acted on, the FIFTH of November.
If that just ain’t the very definition of irony.
Especially considering that Anonymous uses the mask as their logo.
The main character uses Fawkes as an example of someone breaking the law and terrorising a government that was corrupt.
HOWEVER; Guy Fawkes was not terrorising a government that was corrupt. He was trying to destroy the (still fairly young) democratic government in order to devolve england back to just a monarch rule.
To put it simply, Fawkes wanted to replace democracy with a dictatorship.
