I will try to explain it easily  
First, There was no universe, only the Dark Void, ruled by a Being of Hate and Death (The Silent Horror)  
Second, The Five Great Beings (Lords of Love and Life) fighted and defeated the Silent Horror (He escaped)  
Third, The Great Beings created the Universe and blessed the Five Clans (Unicorns, Pegasi, Earth Ponies, Dragons and Gryphons)  
Fourth, The Great Being knew that the Silent Horror would return, and decided to wait until the birth of somepony who would defeat him  
Fifth, When Twilight was born, the Great Beings sensed that the moment had arrived; then they proceed to gift her  
Sixth, But the Great Star also granted its powers to other three ponies beside Twilight,  
Seventh, Celestia find out about three of the Chosen (Sunset Shimmer, Twilight Sparkle and Comet Tail) and she proceed to plan the instruction she was going to give them  
Finally, now you know how all ends
