Bonus points for use of the term “Thagomizer.” Always nice to see a fellow Far Side fan.
Makes sense.
The animation style in this show doesn’t have a lot of detail. I just thought that the claws were coming out really fast, and we couldn’t see them while retracted for the same reason that we can’t make out the hooves or horseshoes of most ponies.
The flash of light was less the magic effect and more an emphasis of action effect.
Yeah, I get the Marvel reference. But I figured with the claws suddenly appearing and covering more of it’s hand than it’s regular claws there might have been some magic involved. Maybe a bit of both? Or it could be due to the animation style. I dunno.
Actually, that’s one of the things that makes me think that the claws and such are just supposed to be retractable. That scene came across as a cat extending it’s claws more than anything else to me.
More Wolverine than Mystique, if that makes any sense.
A better case for dragon magic including some flavor of shape shifting comes from Spike’s growth and reversion in Secret of My Excess.
I dunno, if you look at that other dragon. Innate dragon magic, maybe?
It’s not much of a change, though, and could just as easily be the result of changing position and flexing as anything else.
While I think that the thagomizers and claws are just supposed to be rigid and retractable, you might want to look at Thag’s teeth if you want proof of shape shifting.
When extended, they’re too long to fit in his jaw, and we know that they don’t lie flat while at rest.
If you look closely, you may notice that the “bulk volume” of the tail seems to have decreased after he “squeezed” out the spikes.
I don’t know; that’s a lot of fluid. Maybe even an alot of fluid.
Maybe the mechanism is like the eyes of the snail: some kind of fluid that is stored inside the tail, and is pushed into a tough sheath of loose skin that, when filled with that fluid, becomes tough and erect.
